Asta POV
My whole life I have been laughed at. I was the only one in my village who didn't have any magic. I didn't let that stop me though, I wanted to become the Wizard King. People told me that dream was unrealistic, even the people that took me in said I should just give up on that dream. I didn't listen, somehow I knew that when I got my Grimoire, I was gonna have magic and become the Wizard King. I trained hard everyday so that my body was strong enough to handle the "magic" I was going to have. Everyone said that it was pointless, even Yuno. Yuno is my childhood friend, well I mean, I consider him a friend. He doesn't like me and he always tells me that HE is going to become the Wizard King, and that I should stop trying because my dream won't come true. I don't understand it! We were so close as kids, so what happened? I gave up on trying to figure it out and just focused on becoming stronger. Then finally the day came where we would be receiving our Grimoires! I was so excited, I was finally going to have magic!
"Yuno, we're finally going to get our Grimoires, aren't you excited?!" I exclaimed. He looked at me coldly and kept silent. I decided not to talk to him since I didn't want to make him mad. When we finally arrived at the library, I noticed that there was a lot of people there. They were all waiting to get their Grimoires and so was I.
"I wonder if that one is mine, or that one! Ooh maybe that big one over there!" I announced excitedly pointing all over the library. Some people looked at me with disgusted looks, some rolled their eyes, others were wondering why a commoner was even here. I just ignored them and stayed positive like I always do. Finally an old man came out and gave an announcement. Then after he finished, some Grimoires started to fly off the shelves and into some people's hands. I watched as each unique Grimoire with different designs and sizes flew to their rightful owners. Then all of the books stopped and no more came out after that.
"Uhh, hey, where is my Grimoire? Is it running a little late or something?" I asked as I got down on one knee, reaching my hands out. The whole library bursted into laughter. I could feel my face getting hot as I held my position on the floor. As I was about to get up, another Grimoire came floating out of the bookshelf. I was literally shaking with excitement as it flew towards me. I was about to reach for it when it suddenly flew to Yuno and rested into his hands. All of a sudden it started to glow with a really bright light. Everyone gasped because that Grimoire had a four-leaf clover on it. I looked at him wide-eyed because I knew that the first Wizard King had the same Grimoire. Everyone started to praise him and my family from the church congratulated him, while I was left on the floor by myself.
"Yuno!! I won't give up! I will become the Wizard King!!" I shouted. He looked at me with a smirk on his face and said, "Just give up. You are embarrassing yourself. I am going to become the Wizard King and you won't be anything." As he walked away toward our family from the church, I got up off of the floor and walked out of the library; alone. I walked to the woods and started to train again. I might not have gotten my Grimoire, but that doesn't mean I'm going to give up. Then I heard a scream coming from my village. I ran as fast as I could toward the village and I saw Yuno tied up in chains by a thief who had Yuno's necklace and Grimoire.
"Hey,give those back! They don't belong to you, they belong to Yuno!" I yelled at the thief. He laughed and said "What are you going to do? I don't even sense and ounce of magic power on you! How are you going to stop me?!" He exclaimed. I then started to charge at him but he launched a magic spell on me, slamming me into a tree. Blood started to pour out of my head as I tried to get up and fight the thief, but he came up to me and started to stomp on me. "Ha! You should just give up! You're weak!" He said as he repeatedly stomped on me. "He's right. I am weak, maybe I should just give up." I thought as I started to black out. Then I heard a familiar voice say, "He's right Asta, you are weak! You're not going to become the Wizard King because I am! Why do you even try, just give up already!" Yuno exclaimed as I saw him blast the thief with a spell. "The thief probably dropped Yuno's Grimoire close to him when he attacked me." I though as I blacked out.
I suddenly fluttered my eyes opened and noticed I was in a bed. I touched my head and felt a bandage on it. I heard footsteps walking toward the room I was in so I pretended to be asleep. I heard the door open and a certain someone said, "Why are you always in the way?" That was Yuno. "I know he wants to be the Wizard King but he doesn't stand a chance, he really should just give up." That was the man who took me and Yuno in. After I heard him say that, I suddenly felt an emptiness within and I knew I was
completely and utterly alone.
