I hesitantly opened the door and poked my head out of the stall to see who was crying. My eyes widened as I looked at the person with pure shock. It was Kimberly Gray, the schools most popular girl. I'm quite bad at things like this so I slowly walkes to her side and tried comforting her by awkwardly patting and rubbing her back. After a while she calmed down and sniffed.
She started talking with a sad smile, but I cut her off. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." "No, I want to." she replied. I nodded for her to continue. "It's my brother, he's so mean." she paused and sniffed. "He said he didn't want to drive me home today and yelled at me in front of everyone." "Hey, hey. Shhh, it's okay. I'll take you home." I promised her.
Her bright blue eyes sparkled and her sad face was replaced with a smile. "Really? You would?" she asked, her eyes filled with hope. "Yeah, I don't mind." I answered honestly. What she did next surprised me. She engulfed me in a tight embrace squeezing all the air out of my lungs. "Can't. Breathe." I managed to whisper. "Oh, sorry!" she jumped back immediately. "It's all good." I responded getting some air into my lungs. "Thank you so much! We should hang out some time!" she giddely exclaimed. "That would be nice." I smiled. "Well see you around!" she chirped, exiting the bathroom after giving me one last hug.
I followed behind her and once she was further away from me but close enough to hear me I shouted, "And by the way, your brother's an idiot!". I heard her laughing as I went the opposite direction to the library. But as I turned around, my face planted into something hard.
I backed away a bit and rubbed my nose. "I'm an idiot?" Dean raised his eyebrows. I was surprised, but quickly recovered with, "Yes, did you not hear me the first time?"
"No, I thought it was a mouse squeeking." he glared at me. I rolled my eyes and carried on in the library's direction.
After a while I heard footsteps, so I turned around and asked, "Are you following me?" He chuckled and said, "Other people also need to go places. Not everything revolves around you." I muttered a few inappropriate worsd under my breath and continued my journey to the library.
When school finished I waited at the main entrance of the school where Kimberly and I had agreed to meet. Once her blonde hair was in view, I called for her and she skipped over to me."Hello Claire Bear!" she greeted enthusiastically. "Hi Kimberly!" I replied with much less enthusiasm. She scrunched her nose and said, "No, no, no! Now that we're friends, you can call me Kim!"
"Okay Kim, lets go." I laughed allowing my lips to linger over the word 'Kim'. "Wait, I need your number first!" she exclaimed. I handed her my phone and visa versa. When we were done, I lead the way to my car. "Why'd you park so far?" she whined. "I was late!" I defended myself, putting my hands up in surrender and pouting.
She quickly looked away and I smirked. Looks like someone's a sucker for puppy eyes. She gave me the directions to her house and once we got there, she turned to me and thanked me. I replied with, "Any time, any time."
"Oh, uhm...I wanted to ask if you could stay till later." Kim stopped me. "Sure, lemme just ask my dad." I smiled. I took out my cellphone and saw that he left a message.
FROM: Dad
Claire I'm sorry I didn't get to say a proper goodbye, but I left with the band to California for a gig. I'll be back in a few weeks. Left a credit card in your room. Use the money well and don't forget to do your chores.
Love you <3 x
Dad.
I felt tears form in my eyes, but held it back. Couldn't he at least have said goodbye this morning? Oh well, I'm used to it anyway. "My dad said yes!" I told her. "Yay!" she squealed with a grin. When I stepped foot in her house, realization hit me.
"Wait. Doesn't this mean your brother is also going to be here?" I questioned, dreading the answer. "Yeah." she chirped. I swear, she's an alien. She's just inhumanly happy. I let out a groan just as Dean walked into the house.
