It was the greatest moment of his career- one of the greatest moments of his life, after his wedding day and the birth of his son. The goal horn blared, the crowd went crazy, and his lifelong dream of bringing the Stanley Cup back to Toronto was finally realized. The champagne started flowing, and the party began, as the team reveled in their hard-won glory. Mitch couldn't stop smiling and laughing- none of them could. The next week- hell, even month- would be the drunkest, craziest of his life. When the wives, girlfriends, and kids came to join the team in their locker room celebration, he scooped Steph into his arms and twirled her around, the baby, half awake with earmuffs still on, sandwiched between them. They both were thoroughly drenched and sticky with champagne by the time they went home early the next morning.

At the parade, despite the massive hangover, Mitch was all smiles. He rode atop the bus waving to the fans and chugging beer, feeling more content and happy than he could ever remember being before. His team had won the cup, he had a beautiful wife and son to celebrate with, and he was making his family and the city that raised him proud. Life was so good at that moment.

Mitch Marner was a Stanley Cup Champion. He got to be a part of bringing Lord Stanley back to Toronto after a 52 year hiatus. As he was finishing the last of his nth beer, he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned to see Steph.

"Look at this, babe. We did it! I wouldn't be here without you. I couldn't have handled this career without you supporting me. Just having you and Owen there for me.... I don't think I've ever been this happy".

"I'm so glad, Mitch. You work so hard, and I'm so proud of you. But, I have something to tell you..." There were tear in her eyes, and the smile started to slip off his face.

"What is it? Is something wrong?"

"No, no, nothing's wrong.... It's just....." She leaned in to whisper into his ear, loud enough to be heard over the crowd.

"We're having another baby" Her face broke into a big smile, and Mitch lit up.

"You're pregnant?! Steph, holy shit!"

He scooped her into his arms (a move he seemed to be doing a lot lately), and started yelling,

"We're having a baby! We're having a baby! Holy shit, we're having a baby!"

His teammates started whooping and hollering, and eventually the news made it over the various megaphones and speakers lining the street. A new wave of cheering erupted from the crowd lining the street, and Mitch dipped Steph and kissed her to the sound of his teammates wolf whistling and cheering.

The Cup and a baby on the way. In Mitch's mind, it was scientifically impossible for his life to get any better.
