Chapter 4 - Chili

(Kevin's P.O.V)

After, I pretended that I went in my house I continued to eavesdrop. "Anyways.. I just don't want my first kiss to be on a school bus.. I want it to be romantic." I smirked at her saying this. So she's a kissing-virgin... Wonderful.. I went back inside and started thinking about a plan.

(Jessica's P.O.V)

Once I went inside I kissed my mom on the cheek and turned on my iTunes music "Belong with Me" came on and I started dancing to it. I was singing full out to the music. I admit I do have a pretty good voice, I've been told by my friends and my mom, but I don't think I do. Anyways, I heard my mom yell that it was time for dinner. I was wearing only an undershirt so I threw on a grey sweatshirt.

I sprinted down the stairs and right away I wished I hadn't. Right at the bottom of the stairs was a smirking Kevin. I felt my cheeks warm up. Actually, this time it was my whole face. I started to back up the stairs. "Jessica don't be rude!" My mom was motioning me to sit down at the table. I shook my head. "I-I need to change real quick."

I ran up the stairs before my mom could protest. I ran upstairs and closed my door. I took off my sweatshirt and was about to take off my under shirt and actually put a bra on. Yes I was wearing no bra. I heard the door open. I gasped and stopped pulling off my shirt luckily I hadn't even gotten past my stomach. "I'm sorry I thought this was the b-bathroom." Did he just stutter? I looked at him and he wasn't smirking. He was blushing...? Aww he looks really cute when he blushes. Wait.. What?!? "Um we'll the bathroom is across the hall." I held back a giggle. "Oh um sorry." Once he left I made sure to lock the door this time. I put on a blue and white striped bra and a cute plain white shirt and went down stairs.

I sat across from my mom (I tried sitting next to her but she insisted I set next to the guest - Kevin). I fidgeted with my fingers uncomfortably because I knew that he was staring at me.

"Jessica?" My mom asked. I looked up. "Yes mother?" I smiled. "Can you check on the chili please?" I nodded. I stood up. "I'll get the bowls for you." Kevin said getting up. "No. I'll get them. You're the guest!" My mom insisted. "I insist!" He ran into the kitchen before she could argue. I groaned and followed him. I ran to the chili. I grabbed a spoon and tasted the chili. I started coughing on how bad it tasted. "This is terrible!" I started putting chili ingredients in it and stirring it with a ladle.

"So.. You're good in the kitchen?" Kevin asked while getting bowls out (I told him where to look). "Um.. no not really, but I'm better than my mom." I tasted it. "Perfect!" He walked over with the bowls. "So about earlier.." he said nervously. I felt my cheeks warm up. "Um.. What about earlier..?" I looked at him and saw that his cheeks resembled what my cheeks probably looked like - he was blushing. "Um.. never mind." He looked around for napkins. I pointed to where the napkins were. "I know you saw me with my shirt almost off and n-no bra on." I felt my cheeks warm up again. "Wait.. you didn't have a bra on?" He stopped reaching for the napkins and turned around looking at my chest. I crossed my arms. "Yes but now I have a bra on so.." I said awkwardly. I started ladling chili into the bowls. "Um.. listen. I-I really didn't mean to uh do that." I giggled. "I know. If you meant to go in there on purpose I know you wouldn't have stuttered." I put spoons in the bowls and grabbed a pack of crackers. I looked at him. His mouth formed an 'O'. I laughed at how cute he looked when he was confused. "W-What?!"

"Um.. You just look cute when you're confused.. wait what?" He came over to me with the napkins as my breathing hitched. "So you think I'm cute?" I shook my head. "N-No I-I don't." I lied. "Kids!! I'm waiting to eat!" My mom yelled. No doubt she was eavesdropping. I grabbed the napkins from his hand (as I did so my hand touched his and I shivered from the contact). "I'll bring 1 bowl and the crackers while you can bring 2 bowls." He nodded. Once we brought out the food, we started to eat.

I was half way done when I felt a hand set itself on my leg. I gasped. Kevin motioned me to be quiet. Seriously?! This duchebag though, I thought and giggled mentally. I pushed his hand away but to no avail he placed it back with ease. I frowned. I pulled his hand back until he pulled it away. I smirked and finished eating in triumph.

"Well I guess I better be on my way home it's all ready 8:00." Kevin said opening the front door. "Jessica walk our guest out to his car please." My mom said. I nodded. I walked out of the house, closing the door behind me.

"Um.. so that was.. interesting." Kevin said as we reached his car. "Just-Just Shut up." I mumbled. "Woah... someone's in a mood." I gave a 'seriously?!' look. He raised his hands in surrender. "Alright. Alright!" He got in his car, started it, and rolled down the window.

"I really am sorry about tonight.." He apologized sincerely. I put my hands in my pants pockets. "I know.." I trailed off examining the car door to try and not look him in the eyes. He actually had a pretty nice car. It was a black Chevy Volt and-- "Hey. You believe that it was an accident- walking in on y-you was an a-accident." I looked in his eyes (and blushed as I did this) and I saw sincerity. I nodded as I looked away. I shivered from the cold and looked at the warmth that seemed to be radiating from the house as I rubbed my arms. "Um.. So I better be going." I looked back at him.

For a second.. I REPEAT for a SPLIT SECOND I wanted to lean in, pull him closer, feel his body against mine, and be warm in his arm. But then that second passed and I shook my head. "Y-Yeah I guess so." I leaned closer. "Um.. Goodbye." I kissed his cheek and walked away toward my house. Once I heard him drive away I started running towards my house. My mom was watching me with her mouth wide open. "Mom close your mouth, you'll catch flies." I said as I walked inside.
