Nash POV:
----------
I woke up to the feeling if my phone buzzing in my pocket. I sat up with a groan and stretched backwards, grasping one hand in the other and pulling. I sat forward and ran my hands on my eyes. I ran my hand through my hair and pulled out my phone to turn off the alarm, my clock read 8:00am. Jeez, I had slept longer than I thought. I tried to put in my lock code, but found it wasn't working. I turned the phone in my hand and saw that it wasn't mine. This was Bart's phone. I heaved a sigh and got up groggily. I felt a shooting pain down my spine and remembered my restless sleep. I kept waking up from nightmares, not knowing if it was real or not. The shock of reality finally hit me and I realized that we were still in the hospital, and Ashley wasn't with us. I felt tears well up in my dry, sleep-deprived eyes. I walked to the front desk to talk to the nurse.
She appeared to be a middle aged woman, with obré hair slightly curled, hazel eyes, and too much makeup was sore as d unnecessarily around her face.
"Um, excuse me..." I glanced at her name tag, "Mrs. Lawson, can you show me where to get some coffee?" I said sleepily.
She pointed me down a long hallway, towards the church I had visited last night. Though my memory of it was vague, I remember breaking down crying and yelling.
I started a slow and pained walk down the hallway. It smelt like burnt paper and old people. The walls and floors were so clean they had a shine to them, almost making it appear like you're in a dream. I reached the end of the hall and saw the Starbucks to my left. I walked up and ordered a white chocolate mocha and waited for it to be ready. Down the hall a bit I heard voices in a room, almost yell like. One voice sounded muffled by tears and pain. I hate hospitals. They're never really a happy place, you usually leave and hope never to come back. I heard the ding of a bell and turned back around to see my coffee was ready. I paid and said a quiet thank you and turned around towards the lobby. Just then the two yelling voices came out if the room.
"She's my baby girl no no no this can't be happening. She's so young!"
I recognized the shrude voice as Bart' s and turned around just to seem him coming around the corner.
"Bart! Wh-What's going on?"
"Nash. It's Ashley. She's...."
I prepared for the worst, tears already falling slowly down my cold cheeks.
"She's in a coma and she might not make it..." He half whispered.
I was in complete shock. I couldn't stop the tears from coming out, or my actions next. I pushed Bart to the side while throwing his phone at him and ran to the room I saw him come out of. I dropped my coffee and it splattered all over the ground. I stopped at Ashley's door and it all sank in. She was asleep, she wasn't in pain, but she couldn't be with me. I slowly reached for the door handle with a shaky hand and pushed it down. The door gave in with a little squeak. The room was quiet, with a window drawn close there was little light in the room. I walked in, unsure of what I may see lying in the hospital bed. I slowly shut the door and turned to walk towards the bed. As I put one foot in front of the other, I became more and more shaky. I reached the end of the bed and placed my hands lightly on the railing.
I looked at her. Her eyes were closed against her pale face, her eyes had a light purple tint around them, as if she had gotten hit. Her hair was a mess and was draped messily around her face. Her whole body was limp and looked tired. Her arm which had two IVs in it. One was pumping blood and the other, a clear liquid. Her left arm was bandaged to her elbow in a red wrap. I was breathless. It felt as if every time I inhaled, a weight was slamming my lungs down again, restricting my breathing.
I walked to the side of her bed, running my left hand across the edge of the bed. There was a chair identical to those in the lobby next to her bed. I slowly sat down and pushed the chair forward. I bent my neck down and put my head in my hands and cried. All I could do was cry. I couldn't do anything for her and that was what hurt the most. She tried to take her own life, and I was partially responsible. I sat up and ran my hand down the side of her face.
"Hey, I know you might not be able to hear me, but I love you Ash. That's what got you here in the first place though, me loving you. But it will never stop. You need to be strong baby girl, fight through this, I know you can. You're the strongest person I know." I said with a muffled voice. I ran my hand down her throat and noticed her necklace was gone. She always wore that. I stood up and looked around. I found a small box with her belongings in it. I grabbed her necklace and put it back on her, same with her ring. I took her Vans and put them beside the bed. It felt better this way. Seeing some slight normality in the room. She didn't move. I slowly reached for her hand and laced my fingers with her cold ones. I brought my forehead to it and more tears started to fall. I kissed the back if her hand and felt a heavy pain. What if she never wakes up? It'll all be my fault. Thousands of thoughts drifted through my head but we're all brought to a screeching stop when I felt something. My heart flip flopped and I sat up a little straighter in my chair. There was no possible way it was happening this quickly but it was. Without releasing her hand, the hand that was now her only life line to tell me she's okay, I pressed the emergency button with excitement. There was no way I was imagining this. She was rubbing her thumb across the back of my hand. It was slow, but she was still showing she was okay, she was fighting.
"Awesome Ash! Just hold out a little longer, please baby." I pleaded.
The doctors came rushing in and asked what was happening. When I told them they seemed shocked but hurried my out of the room. Before I was completely out I yelled behind me,
" I love you! Stay strong for me!"
And the door was closed in my face. I stood there for a moment before deciding to go back to the lobby. I walked in with a huge smile to great my friends who were crying.
"What the hell can you be among at right now?" Jack Johnson snapped.
"Calm down Jack..." Aly, his girlfriend, said.
"Guys. I have great news!" I exclaimed happily.
They exchanged confused glances but welcomed me over.
I sat down with a smile, still barely able to believe what was happening for myself, but slowly began my story.
