"I don't care what it takes! Find her!"
I jumped back startled, what was going on? I heard footsteps walking towards me, and frantically I looked for somewhere to hide. I saw a stack of boxes and dove behind them, just in time too, because the room flooded with light.
"Where is she? And why the hell can I not reach her?" Anubis roared. I flinched, praying he didn't sense me.
"I-I'm not sure master. I-I"
I jumped as I heard Anubis throw whoever it was against the wall.
"Answers, you imbecile! I want answers!"
"She seems to be protected by another's aura, sir... I don't know how, but this aura is stronger even than yours."
"What?!"
"P-please, sir. Thats the only explanation."
"I am Anubis! I am a god. Who could have an aura stronger than mine?"
"If we knew for sure who she was traveling with sir, I could help you."
"But the necklace! I felt it stir mere hours ago! How could that be?"
Silence. "Answer me!" Anubis roared.
"P-p-p-please, sir. Is not my fault. D-d-don't be angry with me."
"Why did the necklace stir?" Anubis asked, his voice dangerously calm.
I leaned forward, somehow I was seeing a vision, but this may be exactly what I need to find out some answers.
"The necklace would only stir, if she was with someone else... physically I mean."
There was a moment of silence, "What?" I could hear the pure fury in that one word, and I began to tremble.
"The necklace would have sensed the other person as a danger... a-a threat. Whatever it was that happened, wouldn't have lasted very long."
"Oh? And why is that?" Anubis asked.
"The necklace would've sensed that whoever it was, wasn't you. Obviously, the other person's desires would have increased, but the girl? She would have been in a sufficient amount of pain."
I nodded, pretty much that's what had happened.
"Do you think she knows how to get rid of it?" Anubis asked quietly.
"No, I don't think she has figured it out ye-" He paused.
"What? What is it?" Anubis demanded.
"We are not alone" The servant meekly answered.
My heart pounding, I muttered a quick spell to wake myself up. But not before Anubis swept aside the boxes and saw me.
I sat straight up, breathing hard. I was trembling and my whole body was numb.
I shook Luke awake, "Luke. Wake up I have to tell you something."
Immediately, he sat up. "What's wrong Bella?"
"I-I think I just had a vision."
He listened to me attentavely, his eyes never once leaving my face as I told him about my dream. When I finished, he stayed quiet for a long minute.
"Well, we're getting closer Bella."
I studied his face and the stiff way he held himself. "You know don't you? You know how to get rid of the necklace."
Slowly, he stood up. "I have a theory, yes."
"Tell me" I begged, my voice cracking.
But Luke merely shook his head, "Not until I'm certain. If I am right, then it means a world of agony for you."
I thought about that for a moment, "I don't care. I will do anything to get rid of it. To be free from Anubis."
Luke pulled me up, "Well, I guess now that we are both awake we might as well go and see Patrick."
We gathered up our few belongings and headed out. After a while I broke the silence. "Luke?"
"Bella?"
"How is your aura stronger than Anubis'?"
"Some things are better off not known, Bella." he warned me.
I nodded, "I agree, but not this. I need to know."
He took a deep breath, "Lets just say that I made a pact, a long time ago. With someone who had a great respect for you. In return for keeping you safe, he gave me a new aura. One that helps me protect you even now."
"Who was it?" I asked curious.
"I don't have time to tell you the whole story, Bella, and even if I did I wouldn't. You are not quite ready yet."
"Yes, I am!" I protested.
"No you are not. And besides we're here."
I followed his gaze to a small shack on the side of the road.
"There?" I asked quietly and Luke nodded. He glanced sideways at me before advancing into the rundown shack. I took a deep breath and followed him.
