Chapter Two

"Your dog, did I hear you right?" I asked smartly "My family and have been taking care of simba for the last two months and we haven't seen any notices or post about a missing dog I believe you're mistaken." I told the man. Coming up to stand next to me, Paige eyed the man warily." Is everything okay dame you were taking awhile I know you have to be home soon." She stammered out. "Yea everything is fine, this guy just thinks that simba belongs to him" I said not trying to hide the temper flaring inside me. "Hmph even if he is, you remember the condition you guys found simba in. A gust of wind could have blown him over. This guy should be charged with animal abuse." She stated with an attitude. The guy in question decided to speak "This guy's name is Mason and if you would just come in I can explain why you found 'simba' in that condition" Mason told them. Looking over his shoulder there were no lights on in the house as far as I could see, this house and the man that lived in it were starting to give me the creeps." I don't think so I'm just going to take simba and get out of here, come on Paige." "Come on simba let's get home and get that bone I promised you." I called out to the dog. He cocked his had at me and walked over to Mason and plopped down next to his feet." It seems simba wants to stay, now if you would simply follow me, I have a few things to explain to both you, Damian and you're friend Paige and once were done all three of you may leave together." Mason explained with a smile that reached his eyes. Wait how does he know my whole name I could've sworn Paige only called me Dame. I looked into his eyes and I saw the slightest tinge of red in the pair of blackest eyes I've ever seen. Something pulled at the back of my memory like I've seen those eyes before and his voice sounded very familiar but I couldn't remember if I've ever met this man before. "Dame this is getting weird, I really think we should leave and I mean now." Paige whispered urgently pulling me away from my thoughts. "What do you mean wei-." I was saying as i Turned around to tell her but the words had died in my thoart. We werent in our neighborhood anymore, where there once was a asphalt road there was nothing. Walking over to the gate i leaned over and saw a drop off that i couldnt see the bottom of. Turning back around i let out a gasp of surprise, where Mason once stood there was an old wizened man standing still smiling looking directly at me. "What in the world is going on here, what happen to the houses, the road, Paige's car?" I Said as I stumbled back toward the house away from the gate. "I told you if you come inside all will be explained." The old man that I assumed was still Mason told us as he turned walking back inside not waiting to see if we were following or not. "Damian I don't like this, I'm kinda freaking out. Where are we? When did we get here? I told you this old man was weird. I know the man we were talking to before had to at least be in his thirties. But this guy is ancient!" I stared through the door way where the old man had been swallowed by the darkness." My guess is as good as yours Paige but I think we should follow him inside he has answers and our only way of getting back home is him." I said making my way inside. Paige clasped onto my hand trailing behind close enough that I could feel her sharp breaths on the back of my neck. "Paige calm down we're here together plus we still have simba with us." I told her trying to get her nerves in check." Simba trotted beside me gave a woof in approval. " I just want to get out of here Dame." I kept walking forward until I noticed the glow of a fireplace from a door ahead. Making my into it I found Mason sitting in one of those oversized chairs with the huge back and arm rest that would make a bear's arm look small. " Ah so you have decided to join me, can I offer you anything to drink or a snack?" manny asked like any normal person would. " No i think we Will pass on that, you can offer us the explanation on what is going on here though." I told him sharply. "Ha such fire in you, I knew I choose right when I decided on you Damian." "You choose me for what? Can you just skip the formalities, my friend here is on the brink of having a heart attack here." I shouted at him. Not taking a notice at my out burst he looked over at Paige. "No, both of you have a very long life ahead of you. Very troublesome but long life ahead of you." "What are you talking about?" I asked again. "Have a seat this may take awhile." Mason urged us waving toward a love seat seated in front of him. Wait that wasn't just there a second ago!?! Taking a hold of Paige's hand I walked over to the couch and sat down, Paige following suit after seeing that I didn't come to any harm. " Now that everyone is seated let's talk about that day dream of yours earlier should we Damian?" Mason asked while holding my gaze. "Wait what how did you know about my day dream about Paige?" I choked out. Punching me in the arm Paige exclaimed " you were day dreaming about me it had better been nothing perverted Dame!" Chuckling Mason stated " no the one which you had in class today." I met his gaze " How do you know about that. I can barely remember it." Smiling manny answered " Well it's be caused I allowed you to see it. What do you two know about the gods of Olympus?" " you mean the mythology as in Zeus?" Paige questioned back. "Yes as in Zeus, I don't know why you would mention him as if he is the best one out of us all." Mason answered. " What do you mean us? It's not like that's real it's all foke lore, mythology right?" Paige questioned. As their conversation went along I was attempting to connect the dots in my head between Mason and my day dream when it hit me. "HADES!, YOU'RE HADES AREN'T YOU!" I yelled jumping out of the seat pulling Paige with me away from the maybe god of the underworld. "It seems you remembered Damian. Yes, I am Hades now please take your seat as you know there is much for us to discuss and very little time." "Damian what's going on he can't be Hades, that's not possible Hades is fictional." Paige said eyes never leaving the man seated in front of us. " I think he is Paige, when I left school earlier today when I was day dreaming I saw him and all the other Olympians discussing something important and if I remember correctly he is the last one left and even he will be gone soon. According to what I saw their powers have been depleting over the years and something is coming that they can't handle so they need to transfer their divinity to new host." I explained to her. "Good I am so pleased you were paying attention. It took a great deal of magic to take your mind to that room and even more to keep it concealed from the other gods." Hades stated proudly. " yes everything you saw is true and it needs to happen soon. My reasons for sending Cerberus... Sorry simba to you was so he could lead you to me at the best time." I was shocked " are you telling me simba is a three-headed monster!" Simba at the sound of his name came over and sat beside my legs. I looked down at him trying to process what I had just been told. "Please don't call him a monster he is a well behaved dog, I'm sure you've realized that by now." Hades laughed out. "Back to the more urgent matter now, I need you and Paige to find eleven more people, around you're age would be the best, to come here in a weeks time so the transfer of power can take place." Hades continued to explain. "Umm you do know people will think we are crazy, I still believe that I'm off in Lala land somewhere!" Paige scoffed out. " Well my dear girl you are not in Lala land, and I have already foreseen this problem which is why I sent Cerberus to Damian here in the first place, give him the command Guard and he will be come the three-headed protector of my home once more." Hades said as he turned back toward me. "Now if you would follow me I will show you to the door and you will find that we have returned." He explained as he walked calmly to the door. Following him out I could see the light filtering In from the doorway and could glimpse the shiny red of Paige's mustang. Quickly making our way back to side of the car I turned toward Paige. "I don't know what's going on but can you meet me at my house later, I think we should talk about this later."
