Shedding off the chains of religion
Taking off the bliders of faith
Questioning practices like circumcision
Asking why we believe in wraiths
Is a feeling of freedom unparalleled
to see the universe for all its splendor
rather than having our questions quelled
And open our eyes to wonder
The glory of all that is the universe
Should not be chalked up to a deity
Nor can it be told in a simple verse
and punishment should not be cause for piety
But rather we should be good for the sake of the right
And make earth as close to heaven as we can
Rather than fearing God's might
To make us kind to our fellow man
For it is in our own power we discovered the cosmos
And all of the wonders of our own world
Rather than a divine host
Our universe from blackness hurled
Matter both dark and light
Through the very reaches of space and time
And yet, on a mote of dust we fight
Over Bible verses and rhymes
