Prologue (Part 1)
~Riley's P.O.V.~
(1 ½ year's ago)
I could see my breath in the cool November air has I waited for him to come. Looking at this park, the park which held so many memories, made my eyes water but I held my tears back.
The swing ever so slightly moving from the breeze, the only way I could see it was from the dim glow of the streetlights. These were the same swings where me and Johnny met. I remember it so clearly, like it was yesterday.
~Flashback, 8 years ago~
The tree was so big. Mommy said it's been there since I was born but think it's older, maybe it 100 years old, like grandpa!
I turned around and saw an open swing. Finally! Some big mean people wouldn't leave the swings alone but now I could finally have my turn. Ms.Dowter, my grade 1 teacher, says we always have to share, because sharing is caring. I ran has fast as I could to the swing but then some mean person pushed me and took my swing!
"Hey!" I screamed my bum on the floor
"It's my turn on the swing!"
The kid turned around and I saw his face. He looked my age and had short brown hair. I was too angry to see his pretty blue, green eyes. I WANTED MY SWING!
"I'm sorry" the boy said looking at me with a cheeky smile "can I have a turn after you?"
~End of flashback~
Turns out that boy was Johnny and he and I would become best friends. We never left each other's side after that. We were like salt and pepper, like the moon and stars, like peanut butter and jelly.
I hear footsteps approaching me and my heart speeds up, it's now or never. I have to tell him.
"What's up Rye? Why d'you call me? Ready to express you're undying love for me?"
My best friend's care-free voice fills my ears and my eyes tear up and the sound of my nickname. As I looked up his expression morphed into one of worry.
"What's wrong Rye? Tell me"
"Johnny I- I- I'm moving" I whispered " Mom wants to move away from all the memories of dad"
By now my tears were silently falling down my cheeks. I wanted to look up and see what Johnny was thinking but I was scared. What if he was crying to? I wouldn't be able to take it. Finally I looked up. It was the worst mistake I ever made, all I saw was sadness, then anger.
Then Johnny walked away.
