    If this room was burning
I wouldn't even notice

Another week was gone and my life with Ethan as bodyguard has returned to normal and boring. For the whole week I was at home or at dance class, watching some movies and talked to my imaginarym friends. I saw my dad less.

But suddenly, when Ethan just drove me home from dance lessons, the horror tour started, which I'll never forget.

Ethan and I sat in the car, he was driving, and I looked out the window as usual. Observed the landscape and the houses.

That day I ended my lesson earlier because I twisted my ankle with a wrong  turn and my mood is correspondingly bad.

Ethan's phone rang. He answered.

"Ethan where are you?!" My father's hysterical voice could be heard which made Ethan's eyebrows contract.
His stern voice answered

"On the way back. About 15 minutes left. Is something wrong, Mr. Collister? "

I too leaned a little closer now to hear better. "What's going on here?"

"You are being persecuted. We do not know yet how many there are. It's a white SUV with no license plate a few feet behind you." A short pause followed. I breathed in shock.
"Reinforcement is on the way. Stay on the road and try to unhook the car. No matter what happens, protect my daughter Ethan!" His voice sounded serious, but I could also hear the panic. Now also restless I turned around to the rear window and had to realize with horror that, indeed, a white SUV drove behind us.

My heart pounded painfully against my chest. My breathing became heavy and I had no idea what to do. Ethan hung up the phone after my father gave him permission.

Ethan increased the pace and turned sharply to the right. The other car followed and suddenly we could hear shots. The windows were bullet proof but could not stand everything. "Duck you!" Ethan's voice trembled and made me so more afraid because he now lost his concentration. He hit the steering wheel in frustration and breathed heavily. More shots popped against our back and then against our rear tires burst open. The gar came to an aprupt halt, making me bang my head against the glass.

"Damn it!" Ethan got off in a hurry, and after I got out, he hurried after me. He was just as frantic as I was, breathing heavily and scared. I bit my lip, tasting blood, when we heard footsteps behind us, followed by loud voices.
He whispered hurriedly "Follow me. Duck you. Do not look behind you" and pulled me tight on the wrist.

"What's happening? What should we do? Ethan! " My head was still thumping and I stumbled briefly. Ethan tried to call my dad, but at that very moment the screen went black. "The second phone, Ethan!" I whispered in panic. Security measures dictate a second mobile phone for every personal protectors to gain additional security.

   Guilty, Ethan looked at me.
He was not prepared.

Nobody was there to help us. Only a few cars stood around but no light far and wide. It was so dark that you only badly saw our shilouette.

"There you are!" Someone shouted, and  shortly thereafter I heard a loud gunshot followed by an unbelievably pain in my leg.
"Ahhh fuck" Screaming, I fell to the ground and clasped my leg in both my hands, which were immediately overflowed with blood. I could not see how serious it was because of the darkness, but I have never had such severe pain.

"Come over. You have to keep running!" Ethan's hysterical screaming only intensified my headache and he tried to pull me up by the arm. I slumped back to the floor and he just got more panicky. He breathed quickly and his eyes were wide open. Then he saw the blood. He gasped. "Shit. Get up!" He tried again, but I sagged.

When we heard the footsteps again and the calls of our pursuers, he seemed to give up completely. He looked at me.

"I am so sorry"

He sounded sad and broken. I did not understand what he meant by that. Panting, I asked "What do you m-?" But I could not finish talking because he turned around and just ran away.
I tried to grab his leg, but he was too fast.
He ignored my calls. I could not believe my eyes.

Ethan had left me to die.
