Mason Maine

Days became weeks and I soon caught up with time only to realize it was already summer. Melanie spends most of her time outside in our backyard pool with one of my father's associate's son, Michael. Father has been bringing work with him home lately. I personally don't enjoy this and I can tell neither does Melanie. After all, she's the one being bothered by an obnoxious rich guy with a younger brother my age, who enjoys bringing me down.

"Mason, would you like to play football in the front yard?" Garry asks out of politeness, but only I know, he isn't asking permission. I sigh, remembering how my father told me to keep our guest happy.

"Tackle football?" I inquire, wanting nothing else to knock down.

"But of course." He replies with amusement sparkling in his annoying hazel eyes. I follow him towards the front lawn. I throw the ball for him to catch and sprint out to tackle the nonsense right outta him. He lands hard on the ground and I laugh victorious. It's my turn to catch the football and run, so I do just that pushing Garry out of my way to score a touchdown. This continues for a while until I hear something that sends thrills down my spine. Garry uses this to tackle me viciously, and then slams the football on my stomach, bouncing off towards Her house.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I was just playing football with that stupid boy, who can't even catch the ball." Garry laughs pulling himself together. I shut my eyes afraid for some reason.

"Oh," She says, not caring the least bit.

"Let me help you with that." Garry presses, probably trying to throw away the thrash for her.

"It's okay."

"My name's Garry Solomon." He greets not giving up.

"Jamie, Jamie Thompson."

"Nice to meet you, you are really beautiful." Those words make me roll over in pain. I haven't heard that name since the beginning of summer, when I buried the most important thing to me at the park, a couple of blocks away. I tried my very best for her to forgive me, but not even I would forgive what I've done to her so I've been avoiding her. I haven't been leaving my room for the longest time. "Are you okay retard?" Garry gives me his attention only momentarily. I stager up and disappear inside the house not replies because truly I still am not okay.

"Oh doofus, you don't look so good." Melanie clearly states using this as a reason to keep away from Michael. "We should talk in private." She turns to face Michael. "I'm sorry but my brother needs me." She yanks me upstairs without another thought.

"Father needs to hurry up and finish his work with Mr. Solomon. I don't know how much I can take of those two annoying brothers." I say falling on top of my bed. Melanie lays down next to me.

"Same here." We stay silent together until her cell phone rings. "Hello?" She picks up. "Oh hi...yes its working fine thanks for worrying and helping me out. If it weren't for you, I'd probably be stuck on road with a broken down car." I sit up wanting to runaway. "Josh I...never mind." It's all because of me that they broke up. "I promise I'll return you a favor." I walk out closing the door behind me.
