I awoke panting in fear. Once I realized that it was all a dream and there were absolutely no cockroaches chasing after me, I managed to calm down. The alarms rings starling me. Turning it off, I get dressed and head downstairs to eat breakfast. To my surprise, both my parents were downstairs making breakfast.
"Good morning," I greet them unsure of what to do next.
"Good morning," My mother replies, but my father doesn't. He sat at the dining table engulfed in today's reading.
"It's a surprise to find both of you here in the morning. Are you going to work later?" I question curiously, taking out a glass plate from the covert and walking over to be served eggs and bacon.
"Yes," My mother replies, "We're taking you to school today so we can eat breakfast together. Melanie stood next to me, showing up out of nowhere. Taking my served plate for herself. I opened my mouth to argue and complain but shut it back up realizing that we weren't the only ones in the house today. Like the great brother I am, I let it go getting another plate for myself.
We all sit at the table, eating in silence. It was so uncomfortable that when my parents jumped in surprised at the sudden shouting coming from outside, Mel and I both giggle. That's until my father's expression hardened. I could tell straight off the bat he was furious at our neighbors for acting so in appropriate early in the morning.
"Those people need to be taught some manners." He thunders making me flinch. I hate it when he gets upset, it frightens me. Mel and I stay silent as he rambled on, on how he despises them and that they should be following our example. "And that Jamie child, she needs to act like a proper young lady and not at all like a young man." Without realizing it, I had clenched my hand into a fist. NO one talks about Jamie like that. It's too bad; I don't have the guts to stand up to my father. I excuse myself from the table and wait patiently to be driven to school. My mother takes me to school in silence. Ecstatic, I practically jump off of a moving vehicle just to end the awkward.
"Goodbye," I say closing the door and heading inside. The halls were slightly empty except for those few students trying to make it to their class on time before the tardy bell rings. I turn left on one of the halls finding Jamie standing tall and proud.
"That's what you deserve." She says with a tone of voice I've never heard before. It surprised me to even hear them coming from her in such a coldhearted tone. That's when I had to see who she was saying this too. Something inside of me snapped. It was a crying Kristin that Jamie was speaking to. I never knew Jamie was capable of this.
"I should have known, you are what I hear in rumors. It was stupid of me to think good things about you Jamie. You sicken me." I hiss with the same expression shown upon her face. I walk over to my girlfriend's side. "Let's get you to the nurse, Kristin, come on." I say sweetly.
"Wait I didn't hit her." Jamie protests, which angered me more.
"I don't know if I can believe you anymore, you're a liar." I stare at her coldly. "I never what to see you again Jamie, all you do is cause trouble." I look away before I feel guilty, but not fast enough to stop me from seeing tears roll down her cheeks, but only for a moment. Jamie steps forward after composing herself, handing me back my sweater. I take it from her, getting ready to leave, but her words freeze me in place.
