chapter 5

That's until I'm in his head again and what I see shocks me

A thing I don't even know what it is. It's like a giant spider made of some kind of dust or smoke going into wills mouth and nose. Like it's choking him. I yell his name but he can't hear me. He looks terrified. I try to move towards him but I can't. It's like I'm stuck in concrete. I try to reach out but I can't. "Will! Will! Will! Will!" I scream trying to help him. But he can't hear me
All I can hear is the monster and will choking until the monsters suddenly gone and I snap awake. I sit up fast but lay back down when my head starts to spin. Max leans over me "you scared me so bad" she says quietly holding me to her chest
"Where am I?"
"On the school oval. Will has a-a...I don't know. He had this thing and it was like you were having one too or something. I couldn't snap you out of it. I thought you were going to die" she says wiping my nose before cupping my cheek. "I couldn't lose you" she says tears in her eyes. It makes me smile slightly seeing max so soft
"You won't lose me. You're stuck with me for how" I state putting a hand on her shoulder. She helps me up and we follow will and his mom out of the school

Once they walk to our car max turns to the boys and says "okay, that totally freaked me out. Did that not freak you guys out?" She asks. I keep my head down and walk past them all getting my bike out of the rack and hopping on "you coming Max?" I say still not looking at them
"Yeah. Bye guys" she says getting on the back of my bike. After I drop her off at her house I head home to get pushed out the door by my sister "I'm having friends over. I don't want you here. Bye" she says pushing me further out. I grunt and get back on my bike knowing it's no use in fighting. I head to the arcade.

Next day

I arrive at school at the same time as Dustin. "Hey Dusty" I say putting my bike next to his "Hey y/n"

He starts looking around. He finally starts running towards the back of the school I follow. When I hear Max's voice I speed up and pass Dustin as he sprints towards the voice "this is so disgusting. Is this really necessary?" She ask when I come around the corner

"What the hells going on?" I ask and Dustin nods along
"What do you think? We're looking for dart" mike states looking towards us
Trash gets thrown out of the bin and we all jump back "Jesus!" Dustin yells
"well well well" Lucas says jumping out of the bin "look who finally decided to show up. After I drew the short straw. Real convenient" he stats
"You stink" max says moving towards me and grabbing my right arm tight making me stifle a laugh
"Hi max" Dustin try's to flirt.
"Hi" she says awkwardly
I try not to laugh but I can't help it, I burst out laughing and Dustin glares at me
"I'm sorry" I apologise quickly still laughing slightly
"You just gonna stand there or are you gonna help?!" Lucas yells at me while throwing a stick in my direction. I catch it right before it hits max in the face.
"Watch it big fella" I say towards Lucas. He throws another one towards Dustin and I can tell by the look on his face he's not gonna catch it so I do and hand it to him
"Thanks" He says quietly
We start to poke the garbage looking for dart

We're in the middle of class and will still hasn't turned up.

It's lunch at school when mike Try's to get in contact with will or his mom.
"Anything?" Lucas asks when mike comes running back
"We need to talk. Av room. Right Now" he states running towards us and up the stairs. We all get up. Including max "party members only" Mike scowls at mad while opening the door. Max looks hurt. "Y/n are you coming?" Mike asks looking at me when they're all inside
"no. I'll stay here. Keep max company" I say grabbing Max's hand and giving it a reassuring squeeze

The bell rings and it's finally time to go home. I walk out with Max towards our lockers.
"Hey, Max. Have you seen Dustin? We're supposed to meet after class" lucas days from behind us. I sigh and look at max who just slams her locker door and storms off. I run after her not looking back at Lucas. Lucas continues to yell Max's name and chase after her like I'm not even here
"Hey,Max! Hey, where you going? Come on! We've gotta go look for dart"
"Yeah, good luck with that" she says continuing to walk away me following
"What is wrong with you?!" Lucas yells from behind us. I slow my pace and turn to him
"What is wrong with her?! What is wrong with you?" I accuse
"I don't understand!" He yells to max totally ignoring me
"No! I don't understand" she yells back turning to face him. Scaring the poor boy "you guys act like you want me to be your friend but then you just treat me like garbage!" She yells hurt written all over her face. I go to her side as support
"That's not true!" He yells back
"Yes, it is" I say back. He glares at me and that doesn't go unnoticed by Max
"Don't look at her like that" she says to him seriously
"I-I" He inhales
"You go and hide in the AV club keeping secrets like we're in second grade or something" she continues the topic from before "you know, I thought you guys wanted me in your party"
"We do. But it's..."
"But what?" I ask "Mike let me in. What's the difference with Max?" I ask stepping forward
He ignores me once again. He sighs "there....there are just things. Things we can't tell you, all right? For your own safety"
"My own safety?" She looks annoyed
"Yes!"
"Because I'm a girl?"
"What? No!"
It's like I'm not even here anymore.
"Did you keep secrets from el?" She says quietly
"How do you know about el?" He ask. Than he looks at me finally
"You" he accuses stepping towards me
"I-I" I stutter
"I'm telling mike" he says like some two year old
"Go ahead. I have max anyway" I say walking towards the other girl and looping my arm with hers
"You know what forget it okay?" I look at her "I don't wanna be in your stupid party anyway. I'm out" she states before turning and walking away me following "have a nice life" she says as she continues to walk
"Max!"
"You still stink,by the way!" She yells back

Max gets in her skateboard and rides slowly as I walk with her. She stops and gets off when she gets to her brothers car. "I'll see you later alright. Don't come closer" she warns and I know why. It's her stupid brother
"Okay" I say simply. But inside I'm ready to punch billy if he touches her
He talks to her as she walks towards the car. She gets in the car and I stand close by. Watching billy light a cigarette. They talk more in the car. She says something back throwing her hands up in the air. He grabs her arm harshly and yells at her
"Hey buddy. Mind letting her go?" I ask sticking my head throw the drivers side window slightly
He turns towards me and glares. He tightens his grip on her arm and pulls her harshly "Hey, hey, hey okay buddy. Have it your way" I say grabbing his cigarette and flicking the ashes off and bringing it close to his arm. He doesn't look happy. I look at him coldly making him let go of Max's arm. I fake a smile and go over to Max's side of the car. "You okay?" I whisper kneeling down to get a better look at her face. She's crying "Hey. It's okay. I got your back okay Red?" I say kissing ear cheek than opening the door and signalling for her to get out of the car. She does. And I slam the door and walk off with max.

I'm sorry this isn't the best but I've been busy lately with tests, homework, work and teenagers being absolute idiots who love drama. Yay me
