I hate Archangels. Okay, well maybe not hate. More like I find them really annoying. Even though Madison is really cool, she can still kind of be overbearing. Especially when she does her If-you-touch-Kaitlin-I-will- smite-you thing. Like I said, just a little annoying.
At least she has a cool vessel. I'm being dead serious. Unlike most angels she got a really bad ass vessel. When she... took over... her vessel's body, it-she- was wearing a leather jacket, leather boots, a black tank top, and dark skinny jeans. A real bad ass.
But that's beside the point.
The point was that I was likely to get turned to ash in about three seconds. Luckily, this wasn't the first time something like this has happened.
Let's just say that Madison finds me somewhat annoying.
"What is the matter with you?" Madison asks me once the room isn't filled with blinding light.
"What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you? All I did was throw that thing-"
"A spear head."
I faltered. "A what?"
Madison rolled her eyes. "A spear head."
"Yeah, I got that. But why would you just have a random spear head on your table?" This was directed at Kaitlin.
Kaitlin was about to answer but Madison beat her to it. "Because it belongs to Odin."
"Odin?" I asked. "As in the Norse pagan god Odin?"
"Obviously." she said.
"Well excuse me if it should be obvious that you have Odin's spear head. Why do you have a spear head?" Again, this was directed at Kaitlin.
She actually got to answer this time. "I don't know. Madison asked me to get it, so I got it. She was supposed to stop by today and tell me why."
You see, Kaitlin and Madison were better acquainted than most Prophet-Angel pairing.
I turned back to Madison. "Look, I'm sorry that I almost injured your prophet."
She studied me for a moment, no doubt trying to detect any sarcasm in my apology.
Aparently she didn't find any because she gave me a small nod.
"Apology accepted."
"Okay," I said, "now that Kaitlin's safe, can you please explain why she has Odin's spear head?"
"Because I asked her to retrieve it for me."
Smartass. "Okay, why did you have her get it for you?"
"Because I have reason to suspect that someone was going to try and use it to summon him."
"Who?"
"That's confidential."
"Of course it is." I muttered to myself.
Angels. They only tell you what you need to know and not what you want to know.
Let's try a different route. "Okay," I said, "why would someone want to summon him?"
"I'm working on that."
By this point I'm resisting the urge to strangle her.
"Fine. Go," I told her.
She looked confused. "I'm sorry, what?"
"You obviously have things to do, and Kaitlin and I need to discuss some things. Go."
She studied me warily. "But-"
"Look, we can stand here all day arguing or we can get on with our lives. Kaitlin's safe. I promise not to throw anything else at her. Okay?"
She hesitated for a moment. "Fine. As you wish."
And with that she was gone.
I sagged with relief. "Thank God, now we can relax."
"Wait," Kaitlin said, "you said that we needed to talk."
I winced. I had said that.
I took a deep breath. I hadn't told her why I was staying with her, only that I needed a place to stay for a while.
"Okay," I started, "you know how I said I needed a place to stay? Well, you're gonna have to make room for two."
Her brow furrowed in confusion. "Who else is-"
Realization dawned on her face.
"You're pregnant," she breathed.
