The Ranch Hand

Chapter 5

I awoke the next morning to the sound of the roosters and cows. I quickly scurried out of bed to put on my slippers and run down stairs, I grabbed my phone on the way out of my room to look at the time which was 9:30am. when I got down the stairs my grandma and grandpa were already at the table eating. When I entered the kitchen my grandparents looked up and greeted me with a smile. I pulled out a chair as I took a seat and began to put pancakes, eggs, and bacon onto my plate.
"How did you sleep angel", my grandpa asked?
"Great", I said flashing a smile.
"How was your ride with Dixie last night", my grandma asked with curiosity. I sat there for a moment to realize that she new I was out late.
"It was really fun", I said sheepishly.
"I don't care that you went out late sweety, it's the country", my grandma said flashing me another big smile. The door swung open as Kaleb entered.
"Goodmorning mam", he said as we walked up to the table looking at me.
"You don't have to call me mam Kaleb", I said chuckling.
"Alright", he said also chucking, "let me try again, Goodmorning Laeny", he said.
"That's more like it", I said now bursting with laughter.
"So I see you two got know each other a little better", my grandma said.
"Yea, we kind of talked last night before I went riding", I responded happily.
"Well Laeny looks like you have a new friend", my grandpa chuckled. I looked at Kaleb and he looked at me with his sparkling blue eyes, god he was gorgeous. I looked down at my plate and began to eat again. The akward silence didn't last for long because my Grandpa always starts conversations.
"So I was going to go into Canberring town and pick up some things from the store did you want to go Laeny"? I stopped to think about it for a second but then I remembered that I promised my grandma I would gather eggs and clean stalls today so I turned that option down. I quickly finished my breakfast and went up stairs to change, I picked out my favorite barn working shirt and a pair or ripped up skinny jeans, I then went to the bathroom and brushed my teeth and threw my hair into a messy bun on top of my head, finally I ran down stairs and put on my cleaning boots and headed out the door. I went in the chicken coop and began trying to grab eggs from chickens but before I knew it all the chickens were on my, scratching and pecking all over me, I screamed "help", until I found myself being grabbed by my waist and pulled out of the chicken coop, I turned around to see Kaleb there, we stood there for about 10 seconds before he ran to the side of the coop and began to spread seeds for the chickens, I had totally forgotten that part of the process. " Did you forget how to collect the eggs", Kaleb said chuckling.
"It appears I did", I said laughing as I went in the coop to collect eggs. I watched as Kaleb walked back into the horse barn, why was he so Gorgeous?

I collected the last egg in my sight then decided to walk into the barn, I set the eggs in the barn fridge and headed over to Dixies stall, I grabbed her hot pink halter and slipped on followed by me clipping in her lead rope, I wanted to groom then clean her stall. I clipped Dixie into the cross ties and began to pull out my tack box when I heard hooves come clacking through the barn. I stepped outside of our tack room to find a huge beautiful black horse that Kaleb was leading. I walked over to Kaleb and began to talk. "wow who's this", I asked?
"This is Dasha", he responded, "I got her about 3 weeks ago.
"She's beautiful, what her breed", I asked wanting to know more about this majestic animal.
"She's actually a warm blood, Clydesdale mix", Kaleb said as he pat her neck.
"Do you know exactly how tall she is", I said as my eyes drew to his.
"She's exactly 17.5 hands" he answered. I absorbed all the amazement and beauty that was in front if me and in my head I was saying, "the two most beautiful creatures are in front of my face. I walked back over to Dixie to begin grooming her by first taking my curry comb.
"You going for a ride", asked Kaleb as I turned around to face him.
"I wasn't planning on it right now I was going to clean her stall", I answered.
"Well I was wondering, well..... Uh, would you like to go on a ride with me", Kaleb asked as he swallowed hard. I say there shocked at what I had just heard.
"I would love to", I said as I quickly wrapped up my grooming. A smile crept upon his face as his adorable dimples came out. I decided I was going to go bareback again, just because my effort was lacking.
"Ready", Kaleb asked as he jumped upon Dasha's back using only his muscles to slide up.
"Yep", I said as I did the same as him exept less impressively because Dixies way shorter. Kaleb trotted up next to me and off we walked Down the little path and into the woods.
