Rain came down in sheets on the busy streets of Gotham. The drops coming down thick and large hitting the pavement in slashes as the drops joined each of their siblings in the pools each one had made on the streets. Cars were held at a standstill and pedestrians were forced into the nearest shops to keep from becoming showered in the cold droplets that poured down.
All but one of course. A girl with brown hair holding her head down and her jacket tight walked quickly down the vacant streets with a hurried pace. She glanced up every so often to check her surroundings before looking back down continuing on her venture. Finally she saw the sign to the club where she worked and made her way into the building and up the stairs pulling her hood off her head shaking any remaining water off her shoulders.
"Sydney you're late!" Her boss limped over to her upon her immediate entry into the club upstairs. His face holding a scolding glare before his lips turned to a smile as he shrugged and let out a laugh that sounded all too sarcastic.
"I'm so sorry Mr.Cobblepot," Sydney shook her head and took off her soaking wet jacket placing it on the near by coat rack, "Please I'll do anything just don't fire me."
The bird nosed man took in her pleading words for a moment before limping closer to her and becoming all too close for her comfort. The mans short stature and inability to walk without dragging his foot made him no less intimidating.
"You will accompany Victor on a little run. I'm sure he will enjoy the company." He spoke with a harshness in his voice that sent chills up her spine, before he turned away going to the bar.
Sydney was all to familiar with the kind of man Victor was and the "work" he would most likely be doing. He was a hit man unlike any other in Gotham. Once working for Flacone, he had established a name for himself and soon became one of the most feared men in Gotham. No one crossed Victor. She refused to look him in the eyes anytime he ordered a drink, and that was the extent of their contact with one another.
It was as if the devil could read minds. Victor Zsasz walked into the room dressed from neck to shoes in all black as he most always did. He set his eyes on the female before taking a few strides over to be right in front of her. He looked down seeing the timid girl refusing eye contact with him.
"Awe come on," Victor smiled and grabbed her chin forcing her to look at him, "It'll be fun. Just think of it as like a date or something. You've been on one of those right?"
Sydney actually looked at him for the first since they met, and noticed he wasn't as terrifying as one would assume. His eyes read humor and a slight tinge of playfulness that threw her of guard. A man of hiss profession surely would come across more sinister than this man?
Her thoughts cut short when the feeling of pulling on her body brought her back to her surroundings. She was being pulled and failing miserably at walking down the fine wooden stairs. Her free hand caught the railing giving her enough support to gain her balance and catch up with her lead. Once outside the rain had calmed and a black car sat awaiting the two of them. Victor opened her door allowing her to slide into the passenger seat giving a rather convincing gentleman tone saying something along the lines of "ma' lady" to her before closing her door and entering the vehicle on his own side.
The car ride was silent besides the few deep inhales from the frighted girl in the passenger seat who wasn't fond of the assassin's reckless driving. Her legs curled up into the seat feeling as though if she curled any tighter she may vanish in thin air. Victor glanced over at her giving a short laugh before taking a turn onto a dirt and gravel path allowing his driving to become much calmer. Sydney looked out the windows astounded at their surroundings as they made their way down the man made path.
