-----Josh's POV-----
It's been 5 days since Jason took Zoey Lenn... Worry eats at me every second she's gone... I can't sense her anymore and I do not trust Jason at all, not even the slightest, to keep my little sister safe. There are far too many dangers out there for her now.
The Fallen is now aware that she still lives and will do anything to get her. If They catch her... No one will be safe.
I should have known Jason would come after her! I should have known how he'd react when he finally found her after all these years... But I failed to protect her... She was my responsiblity and I failed her! I wasn't strong or fast enough to keep her by my side.
"Josh!" someone yelled from behind me but I didn't turn around. I am shamed by what I have let happen. I refuse to show my face.
"Josh! Get up!" they called again. "Josh!" After a minute I realized it was Eric.
"Go away. I can't show my face again... I have failed..." I replied quietly, turning away from Eric more.
"No you haven't, man. You tried, that's what matters! Maybe Jason has grown up over the years, he's stronger now! He CAN protect her!" his voice began to rise as he spoke.
"What if he hasn't? What if I'm just weak? I'm pathetic, Eric... I couldn't protect the one person who was most important... The one person who could finally bring an end to the Fallen's murderous reign... The suffering..." my words were barely spoken over a whisper.
"Joshua Lee Smith, get your sorry ass up right now!" Eric bellowed as he pulled me by my shirt. "You and I know you don't give up easy! What's so different about this time!?"
I pry his hands off me and slowly turn to face him. "I don't know." my voice started to crack and my vision became blurry with tears. I couldn't stand the thought of Eric, or anyone for that matter, seeing me cry, so I began to run in the opposite direction. I know it made me look weak but it was like my feet had a mind of their own.
I run faster and faster as Eric's voice slowly faded into nothingness. Tears streaming down my face. I had lost my honor... my sister... my reason for existence... I was a failure. Jason was suppose to be the weakest and most undeveloped being of us all. He was stupid and immature and reckless... But he managed to snatch Zoey Lenn from me and break the connection between us.
These thoughts kept running through my head like a broken record. I could almost hear my father's voice again.
" Protect her, son, she is more than just your little sister" My father said as he pulled me into a dark room and handing me Zoey Lenn.
"But dad, what do you mean? Why do I have to protect her? We can do it together!" I grabbed my dad's arm with a smile on my face, but as soon as I saw his eyes the smile that lit up my face was gone.
He pried my little hand off him and backed away, out of the small door he had pulled me into and a tear escaped his eye.
"Joshua, promise to always protect her and care for her as I would." He looked so sad and then a loud knock came from the living room where the front door was.
"But why? Daddy where are you going? Don't leave!" I ran towards him with my new baby sister, but was stopped by his hand.
"No, Joshua. You must stay here. Now promise and stay here until it is silent as the night." Tears were running down my face and a sob escaped my lips.
"I promise, Daddy... Where are you going? You'll come back, won't you?"
"Son, I'm afraid where I going I will not return," He paused and hugged me and Zoey Lenn tightly to his chest "But I will always be in your heart, along with your mother. Don't cry, everything will be ok. When you leave here, a dear friend of mine will be waiting for you, ok? Be strong, my son."
Another loud bang came from the living room and dad pushed me back farther in the room and shut the door quickly behind him.
I suddenly heard a man shouting out orders and what sounded like an army came running in. I hide behind a pile of junk, holding Zoey Lenn close to me.
"For Caroline!" I heard my dad rawr. That was my mother's name... I held back my tears as I really began to understand.
A piercing scream echoed though the room...
---Present day---
I hadn't even realized I had ran to the place I last saw Zoey... I fell to my knees crying, but out of the corner of my eye, I saw something laying of the ground I turned and saw Zoey Lenn's necklace lying just a few feet away.
Slowly, I moved over to it and took it in my hands.
Something just clicked right then and a strange feel of understanding came over me.
I could see Zoey Lenn! She was walking quietly along side Jason. He would stare at her but she was so oblivious to his eyes burning holes into the side of her face. She blinked in confusion and looked at Jason.
"Did you say something?" she said and stopping to look around.
"No, what's wrong?" he look surprised by her answer and anger crossed his eyes. Then I realized she heard me!
"Zoey, It's me! Josh! Don't tell Jason you can hear me, ok? I'm coming to get you
