Into The Forest

chapter nine: my loss

Liu's pov:

Emily wasn't next to me when I got up, I didn't hear anyone outside the tent so I was guessing no one else was awake either. I unzipped the door, the air was cold and heavy. I still didn't see Emily. I heard the door to the other tent being open and David walked out. He admittedly looked up at the trees. He went silent, not even taking a breath. I looked up too, I really wished I hadn't. There were rows of trees, with random people hanging from them, I saw my friends, the ones who had already died. And that old man was there too, right next to Emily. It felt as if the world stopped moving and everything froze in place. The only person we could ever care about was gone. "I'll never leave you, i'll always be with you no matter what." she said that when we were in middle school and had never broken that promise. Tears flooded my eyes as I fell to my knees, not looking away from the trees.

"How the hell did she get up there? Where the hell did the other bodies come from?!" Alyssa screamed. I just blocked out all other noise. I was more focused on Emily. The only one made me happy, the only one who made me feel anything but hate. She even made me and jeff become a little closer.

"I don't know but we need to go, I'm not staying her any longer if people can die in their sleep." Judson said as he grabbed my arm and pulled me to my feet. My eyes snapped away from the trees and we were running. We left everything back at the tents.

~the next night~

I couldn't live, everything stopped and I didn't care about anything anymore. I just wanted to be with her. So I did what happened to her, I wanted to be wherever she was, forever. I didn't wake anyone up as I walked into the woods, by the time the sun was coming I was far enough away from the other three. I still had tears in my eyes and I pulled an old rope from one of the trees and used it for myself.
