Chapter 3
The Words He Used To Say
Why was he here? It's been two years since I last saw him, I thought he left Havana for good. I even tried and let Jen get a hold of him, but it was like he just disappeared. There was no sign of him anywhere. My heart was aching. He brought back so many memories. It was the day I met him and lost him that made me lose everything. I didn't want him back.
The tension was still there. We both tensed up at the same time as we looked at each other. Closing my eyes for a bit, I decided to ignore his presence. He wasn't going to ruin shit for me. Not when I decided to be at peace. I opened my eyes and turned my attention back to the customers.
"Here you go. Is there anything else you need?"
"No thank you."
I smiled at them and headed back to the kitchen. I desperately searched for my manager. I had to get out of this. I had to be strong. Dylan came into the kitchen and I ran up to him quickly. "Can I work around the kitchen today? Don't ask why. I'll stay in an extra hour tomorrow." I asked him hopefully.
"Don't look at me like that... Fine fine but you'll clock out at 7 tomorrow okay?"
"Ay ay Captain. Thank you so much."
I helped around the kitchen. It was surprisingly interesting to see others cook. I learned a lot. Jen was on kitchen duty today so we had a bit of small talks here and there. Tatiana came into the kitchen with a frantic look on her face. "He's here!" she looked at me with wide eyes. "I know." I replied, breaking eye contact.
"Who's here?" Jen asked cluelessly. My heart skipped a beat at the thought of him. Why couldn't he just leave for good.
"That guy who used Mila the day her parents died!"
"Wait, Shawn is here?!"
Shawn. His name suit him. I don't even know how but it did. Shawn. The first guy to ever break my heart.
"Sis we've been referring to this guy as 'he' for two years straight and just now you decide to tell us his name?" Tatiana said as she glared at Jen. That wasn't what I was focused on at the moment. I just seriously hoped he wouldn't stay much. I didn't want him getting in the way of my happiness.
"And I oop- don't attack me sis." replied Jen. We stayed inside chatting and helping out as Tatiana served tables. I couldn't forget him though. At the back of my mind there was this voice saying 'the guy who had a part in breaking you is under the same roof as you.'
Tatiana came in saying that he left and I felt so relieved. I felt at ease again but not completely. The thought of him still being around town frightened me.
We worked until it was time to clock off. We cleaned the place up a bit and each person went his separate ways. I went through the back door that was in the kitchen. As i walked through the door, I struggled to get my hair out of the hair tie. Sighing in frustration, I gave up.
"You need some help with that?"
I heard his familiar voice and tensed up. I wasn't going to look weak in front of him. I wasn't going to let him play me. I turned around and looked at him. There he was with natural smooth curls, looking at me with those hazel colored eyes. He had a black leather jacket on and a white shirt under. It suited him. It suited his vibe, his aura. I couldn't read him. His eyes showed many emotions to the point where I didn't know what he felt at this exact moment.
