Chapter Eight: Gunplay
Xenon
I witnessed how the transactor was killed— he was shot in the head. In that certain moment, I wanna help him while the killer is still holding him in the neck, pointing a gun to his temple. Well, not to spare his life but to get the chip.
Nasa kanya kasi iyon. That thing is too important in the underground world— to the Mafias related to ours. Kailangan ko nang makabalik do'n ngayon. Nasabihan ko na din naman na si Xai na sumali sa bidding. We have to get it before others do.
Kung mas nauna sana akong nakita siya, siguro mas napadali ang transaksyon at nakauwi na kami ngayon.
"The fixed price of this casket is one billion dollars." I heard Leo as I entered the conference hall. I headed my way straight to where Xai and the company are.
"Oh akala ko nilamon ka na ng inidoro," biro ni Xavier pagdating ko.
"Shut up. This is not the time to joke," I said. "We have to win this bidding. We have to get that small chest."
"Are you kidding?" Xander asked, confused. "We're gonna waste a billion dollars first before we can lay our hands on it."
Now I'm confused with his reaction. I looked sideways at Xai. Nanlaki naman ang mata ng bakla. I bet he didn't tell them what I told him.
"Sorry guys, I forgot to inform you two."
"Inform us what?" With eyes narrowed, Xavier asked.
"You guys want the small casket but you're not paying attention to how big the bid is at the moment?" Angela interfered.
"1.09 billion!"
That echoed inside my ear.
"No more bids?" And that's Leo's cue to stop the bidding.
"We have to make a bid. A billion and a million," Xai suggested.
"No. Let's make it two. That's sure win," Xavier said, feeling like a boss who owns billions of dollars.
"We can get it for free but for now... Drop!" Xander bawled making us all hide beneath the tables.
Rapid gunshots were heard making all the people inside cry and noise, finding their ways out of the hall.
I quickly turned my eyes after the chest and saw someone above the stage on the move to take it.
I took the pistol inside my coat out and prepared to whatever will happen next. I looked around me and saw the other three now ready too.
Tumango ako sa kanila.
I rose up a bit and shot the guy above the stage who wants to take the casket. Sorry dude, that's ours. He fell down like a soft feather unable to defy gravity, and I get back hiding.
People continue screaming, trying to find a way out of the chaos. Some lie dead down, red fluids reigning over the marble floor.
Fuck! When will this gonna stop?
Gunshots mumbled a rapid message of continuity. These people beside me trying to protect the casket- our only hope for the good of our organization.
And then the gunshots stopped. Only the people I can see now inside this hall is me and my bros. Where the fuck is Angela and Jandelle?
"Guys, cover me," Xavier started. "I'ma go get the casket."
Now that's insane.
Cocking my pistol for the second time, I turned around, still hiding, looking over the stage and to the side where I'm certain the goons are hiding their asses, preparing for whoever go first with the casket will die.
