Part 3-Strongest Memories

Gilly was feeling guilty. Jax was the one person (she was sure of it) who could break her memory spell, and the last time she'd seen him she'd frozen him with gingerroot. She winced as she headed to corridor she'd left him in. Their friendship wasn't perfect. They fought a lot, and sometimes they wouldn't speak to each other for days upon end. But he was her partner in crime, her best friend. He would help her, however mad he was. Even Jax didn't hold grudges.

As she reached the corridor, she found it empty. Gilly slapped a hand to her forehead. Of course it was. The gingerroot would have worn off already. But where would he have gone?

She groaned. Jax had probably went to find Jocelyn, to find her. Cursed with a memory spell, in trouble because of her sister, just like Jax had warned her she'd be. Oh, he was going to insufferable about this once they undid the spell.

She forced herself to pause and think logically-never her gut reaction. If he did remember her (not that there was any way of knowing), and Jax had found Jocelyn, he was smart enough to deduce what had happened. Jocelyn didn't know much, but she would probably be able to tell him what she knew. Hopefully.

If he learned about the spell, then he'd try to seek her out. And where would he assume she'd go?

Gilly considered this. Where, if she weren't under the spell, would she want to go?

Easy. She'd want to gather her friends and confront Anna at her family's home. But she couldn't do it alone...

She hated to admit it, but Anna was no longer in a position to reason with. She was off-the-grid wicked. Her time with Rumpelstiltskin had changed her, and Gilly needed to stop thinking of her as a misguided kid, and instead as a foe that could be reformed when the dust settled. Hypothetically.

Gilly brushed herself off. Time to go see her sister. And if her plan failed? Jax would find her. She knew he would.

"What's in the bag and why are you trying to hide it under the sofa?" Kayla demanded, hands on her hips.

Ollie hid the black bag behind his back. "Nothing."

Kayla raised an eyebrow.

"It may be...hypothetically speaking, of course...another smoke bomb."

AG looked up from her book. "Why are you trying to hide it?"

"Jax told me to get rid of them after I accidentally set one off in our dorm room yesterday."

"Weren't you working on one earlier?"

"Yeah, but that was with all of you guys, and boy did I get a reprimand after that." Ollie shrugged. "Jax doesn't appreciate my expertise."

"Ollie..." Kayla sighed. "Look, fine, you can-quick! Stick it under there! It's Jax!"

Jax bounded into the room, looking distraught. "Guys, you've got to help me!"

"What's the crisis, Your Highness?" Ollie asked, discreetly kicking the bag under the sofa.

"It's Gilly! It's-" he paused, as if remembering another unpleasant thought. "Wait-do you guys remember Gilly?"

Ollie and Kayla exchanged a quizzical look. "What now?"

Jax looked like he was trying to control his temper. "Gilly Cobbler. My best friend. Your best friend. How do you not..." he trailed off, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration. "Look, we'll worry about that later. I need your help."

"With what?" AG asked.

"She's in trouble. She's going to try and get back at her sister, I know it." He shook his head. "If only she'd listened to me."

"That's fine. But-two questions."Ollie said. "First-who? And second-what are we expecting?"

Jax hesitated. "A-a friend of mine. Her name's Gilly. We need to get to Enchantasia village now. Where's Jocelyn?"

"I'll find her." volunteered AG.

"Oh, and-bring your weapons." Jax said grimly. "We may find ourselves in the middle of a full-scale battle."

"Sweet," Ollie grinned at Kayla, "I've missed those."
