Gilly blinked. Her ears rang, as if someone had set off a grenade beside them both. Stars swam before her eyes against a black realm of nothingness. With effort, she opened them, momentarily blinded by the light.

"Oh, my Grimm, Gilly!" AG crashed into her, hugging her fiercely. Her beastly form had evaporated, thanks to the potions Jocelyn had been concocting for her. AG could now easily control her transformations. But her hands were still lobster red and bleeding. "I thought you were-I thought you were-"

Gilly tried to roll over on her side, letting out a scream of pain. Her arm...oh, Grimm...she felt nauseous. It was trapped underneath something heavy. She was certain it was broken, or worse.

Kayla gasped. "Her arm! Ollie, help me lift it!"

Jocelyn knelt beside Gilly. "Gilly, are you..."

But Gilly could feel her strength fading. She let herself fall, descending into the black nothingness of her closed eyes.

"-awake. Are you sure she's still-"

Gilly shifted and groaned.

"She is awake!" Maxine sat on a stool. Even sitting, she was eye level with Gilly.

Everything hurt. Gilly felt as if she were floating, in searing pain, never able to come down. She licked her dry lips. "My head..."

"You had a concussion." Ollie said in concern. He sat beside Maxine, Kayla fluttering anxiously behind him. "And your hand and arm were broken."

Gilly lifted her right arm experimentally. It was coated in a baby blue cast. She struggled to clear her mental fog. How did she get hurt? Something had fallen on her-not just her.

"Jax." she forced out. "Where..."

Ollie's face fell. "He's still unconscious."

"Do you-do you remember me?" she asked him hesitantly.

He grinned. "'Course I do. You have Jax to thank for that."

Gilly wondered if they could see her blushing. Jax's way of breaking the spell had been...enlightening, to say the very least.

"Where is Jax?"

Kayla's expression became terrified. "That smoky boulder...he was right under it. We got him to the hospital room as fast as we could. He hasn't waken up yet. He's still stable...but..." her voice broke.

Ollie reached for her hand. Kayla returned the gesture.

"He pushed me out of the way. It would've crushed me, but..." Gilly trailed off.

Kayla looked down.

"Where is he?" Gilly demanded again.

"The other room, but you're in no condition-"

Gilly ignored her. She jumped out of bed, throwing the covers off. Ignoring the light pain of her headache and sore arm, she bolted toward the door to Jax's room.

1 Week Later

Gilly stared at Jax. He sat motionless in the hospital bed. For a week, the fairies reported that his heart had gone on beating. It still was. But the beats were frail and fragile.

On the outside, it seemed he was healing okay. His various bumps and bruises had been bandaged. The worst of the damage was his spine, which had been crushed with a weight of somewhere around 250 pounds. It broke a few of his ribs, but the weight didn't last long. According to Ollie, the boulder had disappeared in a cloud of smoke after a minute or so. Jax had received a nasty concussion and he might remain unconscious for a long time...maybe forever.

It was cruel. He'd only just told her his feelings, and now...

Gilly balled her fists together. She had a visit to pay.
