Chapter 2: Supermarket*

Nate's P.O.V

The school bell rang and it was time for everyone to pack their bags and leave for the weekend. Everyone was talking about the grade they got on the test we took today while I was spaced out about what happened earlier in the classroom.

In the middle of having fun with everyone while Mr.Cheren was grading papers, someone who everyone knew as the quiet girl with the polite personality and smile came into the room to hand over overdue library book sheets to me and Hugh, my best friend.

I knew exactly what she was talking about, but I didn't want anyone knowing that I checked out a library book! I'll never hear the end of it from my friends who will make fun of me for the kind of things I like reading. Reading books wasn't considered cool by others, so I had to make sure nobody knew I read books for fun, especially the kind that I like to read.

Of all people, it was Rosa who gave me the paper. She was polite and straight to the point, as I expected her to be. It was hard to put up the act of the cool guy when she's staring at me with those pretty eyes. I didn't feel like I had the right to smile in front of her, so I promised I'll take care of the overdue book.

Hugh had gotten a book for one of his classes, so it wasn't a big deal for him. He didn't read for fun like I did, and I was stupid enough to cause a scene after Rosa tried handing me the paper. I've must've embarrassed her...

Instead of thinking about the test grade I got back earlier, my mind thought through our first conversation after a whole year of her coming back to Asperita city.

I didn't have the confidence to talk to her casually. I had felt like I let her down so long ago that I felt like I had no right to talk to her at all. I should had just made the conversation short back in the classroom... but I panicked.

"Why are you so quiet?" Hugh asked me. I flinched and laughed while showing him the test.

"I almost failed, but I managed a C minus." he looked at his own tests.

"I got the same grade... Did you cheat off me?"

"What? No way dude! I'm not that stupid!" He snorted, amused at my outburst.

"I'm just kidding, stupid" I wrapped my arm around his neck and messed with his hair "Hey! Get off me!"

"Who you calling stupid!? I have you know that I have a better grade than you in outdoor class!" Hugh groaned and tried getting free, but failed and ended up trying to kick me to get me off. I just laughed and continued messing with him in the middle of the hall.

"Hey fellas" a group of 3 of our friends walked up to greet us "How did the test go?" I let go of Hugh and showed them my test while Hugh fixed himself.

"Looks like we all got the same grade!" Brandon laughed, showing off his test like everyone else.

"Are you guys that stupid?" Calem said, being the only one with the highest score "The test was on things we went over last year!"

"Bummer" Lucas sighed, taking out some food to munch on after putting away his test. I sighed and walked off.

"Hey! What's the matter?" Brandon jumped my shoulders to play around and mess with my hair like I did with Hugh "Are you sad that you didn't get a good grade?! Cheer up! Did that book you have overdue help you?" I blushed embarrassed and moved him out the way to keep walking towards the exit.

"I don't think it was a book for class. Which one did you say it was? The History of Unova? That's actually a really good book" Calem said, not at all caring if he's seen as a nerd of the group.
