INTRODUCTION
I. How do you think you would feel if you cut animal products out of your life entirely?
II. Being vegan is good for the environment, good for people around you, and good for yourself.
III. This lifestyle can affect you, your family, and friends simply by living healthier and potentially living longer. People who associate with being vegan or "vegans" help other people without most even realizing it.
IV. My mom was a victim of Chron's disease and was diagnosed in 2017. She was taking strenuous medication and was becoming worse until she started researching alternate treatment methods realizing there are multiple alternative therapies. She went vegan a year after she was diagnosed and has been off her medications for two years now with no faulty side effects of being vegan. She enlightened me on the subject extensively and in 2018 I watched every documentary possible, and started doing research in every reliable and peer-edited place I could. In January 2019 I chose to be vegan and in spring of 2019 I started writing research papers about Veganism for multiple classes I was in.
V. Preview: Let's start by explaining what exactly veganism is and how it contributes to society in many ways without people realizing it.
A. Veganism is eating whole plants, nuts, legumes, and fruits and not using any animal products at all including dairy, meat, seafood, and eggs.
-Most people get confused between veganism and vegetarianism. Vegetarians typically eat dairy and eggs; vegans do not. There are many forms of vegetarianism but I will not go in to depth about the differentials right now.
B. Veganism is a whole food plant-based diet which means that no animals or animal products are used in this diet at all. This helps the planet and our ecosystem in immense ways.
C. It contributes to society through saving animals and protecting wildlife that are endangered and helps people by eliminating gases that are expelled into our ecosystem through animal bi products as well as generally being a great diet for our bodies.
Transition/Signpost: Along with this, veganism is healthy for your body and can prevent many diseases.
BODY
I. Diseases and genetic disorders are becoming more prevalent every day in the U.S. but can be fought by eating more whole foods and living a healthier lifestyle in general.
A. According to a 2018 newspaper article published by the "Cancer Therapy Advisor", Andrea Blevins PhD says that a meta-analysis done in 2017 found that a vegan diet reduces the risk of cancer by 15%. It was found that other studies have been consistent with these findings as well.
B. Eating fruits and vegetables in general have a lasting affect on health due to their healing properties. Many cancer fighting foods include dark green leafy vegetables, berries of all sorts, grapes, garlic and many more. Some of the healing benefits of these foods include antioxidants, allyl sulfur, dietary fiber and many more anti-cancer properties (Hayes). For example, dark green leafy vegetables have something called glucosinolates which are then broken down in the body and become biologically active compounds such as indoles and susulforaphane which are both known for their anti-cancer affects in the body. They stop tumor growth early on by inactivating carcinogens and stop the metastasis of tumor growth. Berries of all sorts help inhibit the growth of cancer as well as kill cancer cells with their phytochemicals (Hayes).
