The first few weeks went by and started out hard, but you began to become used to seeing Flug once a week. You were excited, because he was supposed to come home today. You tidied everything up, making sure the house looked nice for him.
You got ready, trying to look cute and not sloppy for when he got back. You put on some makeup, to not look washed up. You then began to make his favorite food for dinner. It started to become a weekly tradition kind of thing.
How come he hasn't texted me today?
You were concerned, but he was probably just going to surprise you like he did a couple weeks ago.
It was around 6:30, and you heard the doorbell ring. You jumped up, becoming excited. You fixed your hair really quick, rushing to the door. You unlocked the door, opening it and smiling. Your smiled disappeared as nobody was there. You looked beside you, seeing someone had taped a piece of paper to the front door. It was a bill for the house and electricity. You grew nervous, walking back inside to read how much money needed to be paid. Your eyes widened, as you looked at the thousands of dollars the bill listed. Great, now you were going to have to get a job. And Flug hasn't even made it back yet. You grabbed your phone, sighing and calling Flug. He didn't pick up. You were starting to get scared. You didn't know if something happened to him or not. You called him a few times, with no answer. You sighed, tossing your phone on the table. You walked upstairs, taking your makeup off and changing into pajamas. You ate the dinner that was supposed to be for you and Flug. You watched some TV. Your phone rang, and you grabbed it, seeing that Flug was calling you. You quickly grabbed your phone, calling back.
"Flug, is everything okay?" You asked.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm fine, Y/N. Look, I'm so sorry I couldn't visit today. I just have a lot of work to finish up. You see, I'm not doing so good in my classes.." He said.
"Oh yeah, of course. It's okay. There's always next week!" You said, trying to sound happy.
"Thanks for understanding. I'm really sorry. Uh, anyways I gotta get back to work." He said
"Oh, okay. Good luck."
"Thanks. I love you." He said. You smiled slightly.
"I love you too, Flug." You said, hanging up. You sighed, tossing your phone beside you. You really needed to get a job. You grabbed your laptop, starting to look up jobs. You stared at the computer for hours, trying to find a decent job. You finally settled for a job at a parts and service store. It was the only job available that had paid more than minimum wage and didn't require a college degree. You went to sleep, planning to apply the next day.
The next day was a little nerve-racking. You needed that job badly, but fortunately you got the job!
The week went by fast, as you were working instead of laying around the house. When you expected Flug to be back home, he was nowhere to be seen. He had called you with the same excuse as last week. You were getting tired of this. A few weeks went by. And then a few more. More and more excuses. The two of you facetimed maybe once or twice a week, barely texting. You didn't want to admit it, but you began to lose feelings. You tried harder and harder to keep the relationship strong, but it wasn't working. The two of you lacked communication, and with that, you decided that you wanted a break. You were going to drive to the school and meet him to talk about it since you wanted to do this in person and not over the phone.
You bought your own car from the money leftover from selling your old house. You put your hair in a bun, putting on a sweater and leggings, hurrying to drive over there.
Around 45 minutes later, you arrived, calling Flug. He actually picked up for once. You saw him through his window.
"Hey, you should look out of your window." You said, he looked over, seeing you wave. He told his roomate he was leaving for a bit, and he walked outside.
"Y/N, you drove here this late?" He asked. You nodded, looking down.
"Look, Flug. I, uhh..came to talk." You said, becoming super anxious.
"W-What's wrong?" He asked. You shook your head.
"I don't want to say this Flug..but.."
"we need to take a break." you finally let the words out. Tears swelled up in your eyes and began to form in Flug's.
"I love you, Flug, but if we keep doing this, we'll ruin our relationship for good. If we take a break, we can eventually start over again stronger than ever." You said, placing your hand on his cheek. He sighed.
"What's sad is that it's true." he said, with more tears swelling up in his eyes.
"Your school work is ruining us, and I think once you learn how to deal with all of it, we can do this again." You said, smiling. He shook his head.
"I don't want you to go, but I'll let you go anyways..to help our relationship grow over time." he said, cupping his hands on your face. You hugged him tight, only for him to hug back just as tight. You looked each other in the eyes, kissing for one last time before you were about to leave.
"I'm letting you go because I love you, Y/N. A lot."
"I love you too, Flug." You said, smiling and hugging one last time.
"What are we going to do about our house though?" he asked, concerned for you.
"I've managed to save up for an apartment. I'll be okay, Flug trust me." You smiled.
"If you ever need me, please call." He said. You nodded. Suddenly small raindrops began to fall. You sighed.
"I better get out of here. This isn't goodbye." You said, smiling and walking back to your car. As soon as you sat inside, tears formed in your eyes. It was going to take time to heal, but once Flug has learned to deal with his school life and normal life, there was a big chance you'd get back with him, because you still loved him.
