Son of the Mafia

Chapter 5

Commandment Number 3; Never be seen with the cops

In the end I had canceled this afternoon’s practice and told the girls to show up half an hour earlier than normal to tonight’s football game. I was in need of some serious nap time; today had been a lot crazier than normal.

After I had made my way home, I unlocked the door thankful that no one was home. Honestly, I had a nice house. It was not in the main, tourist, section of New York City and it was one of those buildings that have a bunch of houses right next to one another. Truthfully, they look incredibly small and skinny, but once you step inside it looks like a whole different place.

Ours is big and spacious with a second story and five bedrooms. There was even a basement with a game room and small movie theater. My parents never talked much about it,  but when they were younger they had stumbled across quite a bit of wealth and invested it in a house and a savings account for my future college tuition.

I threw my bag onto the kitchen counter, dragged myself up the spiral staircase, and made my way into my room. My room was not anything special. It had deep purple walls, two windows that overlooked a field just outside of the city. The color of the walls also matched the color of the curtains that covered my windows. My queen sized bed was pushed up against one of the walls, opposite was my closet, which lead into my own bathroom. And the wall opposite the windows had a desk for my laptop.

My room was decorated with pictures of my friends and I, the cheerleading squad, my small family, and landscape pictures that I had taken myself. I had also taken some Christmas lights and draped them around the room, hanging them from the ceiling. Also, when you turned the lights off and looked at the ceiling, it is covered with stars that glow in the dark.

After setting my alarm for an hour later, I crawled into my welcoming bed and quickly dozed off into a happy sleep.

All too soon, I was awoken by my alarm. Sighing, I stretched and got out of bed while checking my phone. Mom had texted me saying she would meet me at the game and Jeff texted making sure that we were still on. I responded to both before making my way into the bathroom to get ready for the game.

Half an hour later I was clad in my cheerleading uniform, blue and white – our school colors - make-up and face paint covering my face, and a big blue and white bow holding my hair up into a perfect pony tail.

I quickly grabbed my duffle bag, throwing in a dress, heels, make-up, shower necessities and my blow-dryer into it for the after party. Heading downstairs I also grabbed my purse and car keys, sending a text to Rachel asking if she wanted a ride to the party, which she usually does.

She is much more of a drinker than I am. I usually go mostly to have fun. However, Rachel becomes a total, drunken, mess. It was safer for her and the rest of the population if she did not drive home after parties.

After slipping my obnoxiously white sneakers on, I locked the house door behind me before unlocking my car door. Soon, I was throwing the car into reverse and on my way to the football field.
