description: slavery has been outlawed in Araluen; however, there are still those few that own them, and of course there are illegal slave traders. what happens when King Duncan and his group come upon a young slave that has them all falling in love with him, even the emotionless Halt? a young slave has somehow found himself to be the company of the king and some of his men, what will happen to him? and just exactly who it this slave?

AnimeBooks asked...I think your story is really good, Rangers apprentice is one of my most favorite book series, and I think it's interesting to see the life that will could have had if his father, in I use that term very loosely hadn't had died. But one question though, if one of the Men that wills father loaned him to was a ranger then won it will know how to use stealth and silence to get away from his captors?

Narrators P-O-V:

"He's what?" King Duncan demanded loudly, there was so much anger in his voice that everyone in the meadow took a step away from their king, fearing for their lives if they stayed too close. because they were worried about the king's anger, no one notices as Halt slips away to look at the spot where Danial disappeared from. the King was literately shaking as he took a small, and pained, step towards the knight who had been supposed to watch Mr. Thorn. "Basset, I know that you are new to knighthood, but when I give you a command I expect it to be carried out. I told you to guard Thorn and instead you allow him to escape, you have failed in your duty Basset and it cannot go unpunished. when we return to the castle you WILL be demoted back to battle-student and will return to battle-school until your battle-master believes that you are ready to retake your post as one of my knights."

the entire time he spoke his voice remained calm and under control, which only served to scare the men in the meadow even more. Duncan turned and observed the men behind him, looking them each in the eye to show them that they would meet the same fate if they failed in something so important. as he looks at the men Duncan notices that Halt was no longer among them. looking around Duncan soon spotted Halt coming back from the direction of where Thorn had been bound. when the King raised an eyebrow it brought everyone's attention towards Halt and soon he had everyone looking at him for the third time in a day.

"did you find anything?" Duncan asked Halt as he stepped into the meadow. even without asking everyone knew that Halt had been trying to find out how Thorn had escaped and where he went off too, and from his face they didn't think he found anything.

"I'm afraid I did" Halt said, he sounded angry and kept opening and closing his hands as if he wanted to kill someone. so quickly that no one had time to react Halt had his bow out and pointed directly at Basset. "Basset here is a traitor and let Thorn go, he probably would have gotten away with it if there weren't three rangers in the group, one of which was myself."

suddenly everyone else in the meadow growls in anger and pulls out there weapons, pointing them at the traitor. seeing all the weapons being pointed at the traitor suddenly made Duncan remember Will and he turned to see how this was affecting him, and I froze. Will was lying on the ground, and his body was writhing about as if he was being tortured.

Horace also seemed to notice Will once more, as he suddenly cried out and ran towards the other boy. his cry turned everybody's head turned at his cry, which then lead to everyone by Halt, Crowley, Gilan and Duncan running to his side, worried about the boy that they had all come to care about in only a few hours. Halt, Crowley, and Gilan all stayed where they were because they were pointing their bows at Basset, and Duncan stayed in place because his side was killing him and he knew that is he tried to run, or even move, he would likely end up on his face.
