Perfect life? Perhaps not

Chapter 14

"Hello father. Hello David. Who is this?"

"Hello Bella. This is my wife Kayla Smith." says David.

"Nice to meet you Bella." says Kayla.

"Wait did you say Smith? Are you related to Mason Smith?"

"Yeah. He is my half-brother. Why?"

"What a small world!" says Bella.

"You know him?" says David.

"Yeah. He was married to my friend. Wait, did you say half-brother?"

"Yes. We share parents."

"How is this possible?" says Bella.

"My birth-father is an American. Mason's father adopted me and I am way closer to him than to my birth-father." says Kayla.

"Her father by birth is George, Chris' father." says David.

Alejandro and David's phones start ringing and they step out to answer it.

"You don't look like George. And you certainly don't act like an Anderson." says Bella.¸

"I spent a week with them. Then I got married to your brother. Since then I haven't spoken to them and it has been almost 17 weeks since I talked to them."

"Look. I will try to be friends with you but it is hard for me because you are George's daughter."

"I am his daughter only on paper. I actually can't stand him."

"Great. I hope you aren't mad for outing George's financial statement."

"I am happy you did it. I talked to Alejandro and he told me that he bought all properties of Anderson Global."

"I thought you are just like him and now I see I was wrong." says Bella and hugs Kayla. David and Alejandro come in in the moment that Bella hugs Kayla and are glad that the girls are friends.

"Girls, lunch is ready." says David.

"Let's go." says Bella and wants to leave but sees that Kayla is standing still and says "Kayla what's wrong?"

"Nothing. I am fine." says Kayla and wants to leave but David says "Kayla, can we talk in private?"

"We will leave you to talk." says Bella and drags Alejandro out of the room.

"What's up, David?"

"You tell me. You looked like something is very wrong. Can you please tell me what it is?"

"Look. Bella judged me because of my family and made me think if every time that I will meet someone who knows him, that someone will compare me to him. I don't want to talk about George. I just want back my normal life. Before I went to Vienna and then to America."

"And this is not normal? Us being together?" says David and storms out.

Kayla's phone starts ringing. She checks the caller's ID but doesn't answer and starts crying. David leaves the house and drives off. Kayla sends him a text saying: "I am sorry. Please come back." but she doesn't get an answer. After 10 minutes Bella knocks on the door and comes in.

"Kayla, are you okay? What happened?"

"We had a fight. I think he hates me." says Kayla and faints.

Bella rushes her to the hospital. While Kayla is being checked Bella calls David but he doesn't answer. Alejandro comes to sit with her. Megan comes to the waiting room.

"Family of Kayla Smith de Santos!" says Megan.

"Yeah." says Bella and comes to Megan.

"You are her family?"

"Yes. I'm her sister-in-law."

"Sorry if I offended you but I never saw you near Kayla. Anyway my name is Dr. Megan Pears."

"What is going on with Kayla?"

"She is stable but ..." Megan pauses.

"Why is there a but?" says Alejandro.

"Kayla's pregnancy is now very risky. Any stress could make her lose the baby."

"What is the next step, doc?" says Bella.

"She needs to be calm at any moment until this baby is born."

"May I see her?" says Bella.

"Right now she is sleeping but when she wakes up, no problem."

"Thanks Doc." says Bella.

As Megan wants to leave someone comes behind her and pokes her.

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" says Megan.

"Don't be scared. It is just me." says Hillary.

"Hill, what are you doing here?"

"I came to see you. And I just saw that Kayla is here."

"How do you know that?"

"You do have a board in the emergency room."

"Right."

"Megan, how is my sis?" says Mason.

"She is stable but can't be under stress until the birth of the children she is carrying."

"She is pregnant?" says Mason.

"You didn't know? Oops." says Megan.

"Hello Mason." says Bella.

"Bella. What are you doing here?"

"I am Kayla's sister-in-law. Since when are you here?"

"We came last night. But Meg was working all night so we came to pick her up." says Hillary.

"This is my fiancé Hillary Pears"

"Hi. Nice to meet you. I am Bella Santos Verduro. I am Kayla's sister-in-law."

"Nice to meet you too." says Hillary.

In that moment a nurse comes to get Megan and tells her: "Doc, it is Miss Smith de Santos. It is an emergency. Come quick."
