I woke up a day or two after that and I felt much better, hungry, but better. Where's Danny? I walk outside and find that everything is gone. A dust storm took out everything, and everyone, and those who didn't die probably fled.
Then, "Hey your up", I hear someone say behind me. I turn around to see who or what is was, slightly scared. When I saw it was Daniel I was relieved.
"I'm happy you didn't leave me to die"
"I'd never do that to you"
Now I'm sure he meant that generally but that doesn't mean it didn't make me feel somewhat special.
"Are we the only two left?"
"Seems so. Wanna gather supplies and take a Jeep?"
"Um sure, where though?"
"Anywhere we want."
"Ok. Are you sure I'm not gonna be a burden?"
"Positively certain, yes."
"O-ok."
We got nearly everything we could, and a couple guns and ammo, and we were off. We traveled North for at least 8 hours and eventually made it to France. I asked if we could stop here, this was my home after all. We got more gas and found shelter in a parking garage. I'm french but I lost my accent when I was 8 or 10 that's when we moved to London. It wasn't as fabulous as France but it seemed fancy. Years later my parents died in a storm shortly after the event happened. The planet was struck with something that changed the weather patterns on Earth, or at least amplified it's magnitude. This was after my graduation they just told me to run far away south as possible. All I could do was cry as I looked back to see them freezing and being pushed around by the wind. Why did I leave them. I'm the world's worst son. I guess at this point I was crying since out of no where I was being hugged by Danny. I fell apart and told him everything while crying like a child.
"I'm so sorry, but there's nothing you could've done."
"I could've... saved them or or something-"
"And then what? Die from exposure and frostbite. Don't cry ok, they just wanted you safe. Your alive that's all they wanted, and that's all that matters."
I looked up at him and let my head fall into his shoulder. I didn't care who saw us, I'm in too much pain to. I finally calmed down and got off of him saying, "Thank you for being so nice to me."
"Anytime."
I feel much better now. I'm about ready to pass out when suddenly, we're ambushed by a gang of thugs. We grab a couple weapons to defend ourselves. Danny aims his pistol and shoots one in the head. The thug fell and the others close in. I get on top of the jeep with an assault rifle and tell Danny to duck. He does and I blow some holes in the rest of them. Cake. Afterwards we calm down and get in the car. I wanted to see the Eiffel tower before we left for Germany, we stop and shop for clothes on the way. We sat on the hood and enjoyed the view.
"Where'd you learn that?", Danny asks.
"I was in the army getting my bachelors in engineering. I was a good shot turns out. Mom didnt think it was healthy."
"Cool"
"I miss them"
"I know", Danny says rubbing my back.
"Come on let's find a field to rest in for the night"
"Just a bit longer, please?"
"Ok I'll check inventory"
"Ok thank you". I take in the moment for an hour and get in the car. Turns out Danny was just watching me patiently, blushing I curl up and face the other way. When we get to the field he takes the first shift. He puts a blanket over me and and I drift off.
