Ring of Hope

"Wow....this is so pretty!" I smile in excitement and look at everything around me in interest and taking off my hood to feel the snow. We're at the Frozen Fair, on top of the River Thames. "Ria, we're here on business." Ciel reminds me and I frown, "okay..." I mutter and pull my hood back on.

"What're we looking for Ciel?" I ask in curiosity and Ciel sighs, knowing I hadn't paid attention again. "We're on a case for the Queen, a man's body was found at the bottom of the river this morning." I blink, "oh. Was he okay?" Ciel shakes his head, "no one can live through the temperatures right now." I put a glove finger to my mouth, "oh."

"Lord Phantomhive! I overheard you say your on the case for the dead man found?" The man from before, Abberline I think, walks to us. "Yes, I'm guessing Scotland Yard is on the case as well?" Abberline nods eagerly. "I can give you the clues we've already gathered."

I look away from everything, not really interested and some of the shops around gain my attention. I see the Undertaker as I walk. "Hello dearie, where's Lord Phantomhive? Isn't he always with you?" I blink and look back to where I once was but don't see anyone. "It seems I've lost him."

Turning back to the Undertaker, I shrug my shoulders. "That's okay, I'll find him later. This is my first festival like this Undertaker! Isn't it pretty?" I bounce slightly and the Undertaker laughs, "yes it is dearie. Why don't you go look around. I'm sure you'll be able to find Lord Phantomhive later." He hands me a bag of money.

I smile and wave, "alright then! Thank you and goodbye, Undertaker!" I run towards the crowd and get lost in the midst of it. "Lady Ria?" I turn around and blink when I come face-to-face with Elizabeth. "Hello Lady Elizabeth." I smile at her and she just frowns, "I was here for Ciel's birthday gift but....Paula! I'm ready to go home!"

I frown, knowing I'm the reason she'd like to leave. "I-It was nice to see you again, Lady Eliz-." I'm cut off rudely, "don't talk to me. You pathetic excuse of a Lady." She turns and strides off. I only take the pain for a moment before thinking of what she said. 'Ciel's birthday'. I wonder why he didn't tell me.

"Young Miss! May I interest you in this Noah's Ark. There's only two in this world!" I place a finger on my mouth. 'Maybe Ciel would like this?' I nod, "how much?" The man at the booth grins, "£200." I frown, "I only have £160." I sadden in disappointment. "I'll let you have it for that much, Miss."

I brighten up again, "really!? Thank you so much!" He laughs heartily and passes me the ship as I give him the bag of coins. "Have a nice day, Miss!" I wave behind me as I walk. Looking closer at the ark, I see a blue ring. 'I'll hold onto this, its small enough.'

"Lady Ria?" I turn to find Sebastian. "Sebastian! Look what I've got! Can you hide it until Ciel's birthday arrives." Sebastian bows, "of course Milady. Now Young Master sent me to fetch you, let's go back then." I nod and follow Sebastian, smiling when I see he's already hidden the gift.

"Ria, you cannot just go wandering around the town without anyone. You could get hurt." Ciel scolds me when I return. "I'm sorry Ciel. What's going on?" He sighs but turns to the ice before us. "Sebastian is going to enter a contest to get the ring back for me." I tilt my head, "what ring?" Ciel glances at me, "the ring of Hope. Similar to my own."

I blink and grip the ring in my pocket tighter, "oh." The contest begins and Sebastian starts sculpting. Soon after, everyone finishes and start to show their ice sculptures. The first were pretty bad but then its Sebastian's turn. "Noah's Ark?! Amazing! First prize goes to-!" The announcer is cut off by a group of the contestants.
