It was the middle of the night

It was the middle of the night. Neither too warm or too cold, but the moon shone brilliantly through the clouds, cascading silvery light from the inky sea around it. Todoroki had always liked the moon. It brought a time of peace and tranquillity, and the moon itself was pretty to gaze upon. So when he often found himself plagued by nightmares, he turned to the moon and the stars for peace.

Tonight, he found himself seated in the common room, a glass of water on the table before him as he gazed endlessly into the night, watching the trees shiver in the wind. However, he soon felt the presence of another approaching from the stairs, so he turned his gaze toward it.

His breath hitched when he watched the (h/c) haired girl stop in her tracks, gaze caught in his. They stared at each other for a few seconds, before the girl broke eye contact, averting her gaze to the floor. "Oh, sorry. I didn't know anyone else was awake." Her voice was a mere whisper, but in the otherwise dead silent room, he heard her loud and clear. "It's alright. I take it you couldn't sleep?" The girl nodded, hesitantly making her way over. "Mmhmm. I just can't seem to stop thinking..." she trailed off, before finally lifting her gaze to meet his. "What about you?" She perched herself on the sofa beside him, careful not to infringe on his personal space. "Just... nightmares. Nothing new." The two sat in silence for a while, content with each other's company.

So, it came with great surprise when (Y/n) began humming. Just quiet enough for them both to hear. Todoroki turned to watch her. She was swaying slightly with her tune, eyes closed. Her hair was messy and tousled, but she seemed at peace. Todoroki felt something tug at his chest. He felt the urge to do nothing but wrap the girl in his arms, assure she was safe and comfortable, to tell her she would always be protected, that she was astounding. But of course, he refrained from doing so, simply choosing to let his eyes settle on her face as he drank in the sight of her features drowned in moonlight.

She finally peeked one eye open, catching Todoroki's gaze locked on her. She stopped humming and instead sucked in a breath from behind her teeth. "Sorry! I didn't mean... it just helps me..." She trailed off, fiddling with her fingers which were interlaced in her lap. "It's alright. I found it... quite pleasurable. I would be honoured if you continued."

"Oh." (Y/n) shifted under his gaze, smiling lightly to herself. "Of course, then." She settled into the sofa, beginning to hum again, but this time singing the words as well.

Todoroki lost himself listening to her voice, just as he lost himself to the night sky. He had unconsciously inched closer to her, enough that if they swayed in opposing directions their shoulders would touch. And that's where they sat.

(Y/n) eventually began to slow, eyes fluttering open and closed until she fell asleep. She collapsed backward into the couch, her chest rising and falling with steady breaths. Her face was free of worry and stress, perfectly calm as she slumbered. Todoroki found a smile tugging at his lips. His fingers danced across her skin, tucking a rouge (h/c) piece of hair behind her ear. He watched her for a moment, content with seeing her peaceful.

Until he decided the couch was no place for a princess to sleep. He wished he could have asked but waking her would have just made more of a fuss. He scooped the girl into his arms, as gentle as could be to ensure not to disturb her. He headed for stairs, nearly dropping her, however, when she nestled herself deeper into his arms. This girl would be the death of him. Every day he found just one more thing he loved about her.

He slowed to a halt before her dorm room, carefully trying the door.

It was locked.

He glanced up and down the halls as if there would suddenly be an answer waiting for him. It was very likely (Y/n) had her key on her, but Todoroki wasn't about to go snooping through her pockets. So, he simply decided on the next logical thing.

Bringing her to his room.

He tucked the slumbering girl in, watching as she curled up under the blankets. The bed dipped under his weight as he sat down. He decided to leave the door open in case she awoke later, so she could leave without disturbing anyone. However, this did not solve where he was going to sleep. He would have taken the floor, but he had no extra blankets or bedding. His eyes swept over her figure, huddled over one side of his bed. It would be a waste of a night if he didn't sleep at all, wouldn't it?

Todoroki perched himself beside (Y/n), laying atop the blanket to at least give an air of respect. It only took minutes for him to drift off to sleep, lulled to its depths by the soft, rhythmic breathing of the girl beside him.

Mina knocked rapidly on her friend's door, whining as she still received no answer. "(Y/nnnnnnnn) c'mon! I can hear your phone going off!" She huffed, crossing her arms and pouting, turning and stalking off down the hall to speak to Momo. Perhaps she'd seen the girl this morning. She only spared a glance through the open dorm room door, rolling her eyes as she caught sight of Todoroki lying in bed with someone.

Wait.

Mina spun on her heel and launched herself back toward the door. It was unheard of for someone like Todoroki to leave his door open, but to by lying in bed with someone? She couldn't quite see who it was he was lying with, as they were curled up in his chest, both facing away from the door.

Mina nearly woke the entire dorm up with her flurry of text messages to everyone. And soon enough, nearly half of 1A was peering into Todorokis dorm. "How did this happen!" Mina whispered, shoving her phone into the dorm in an attempt to gather some proof. "This is s breach of privacy!" Momo snatched the phone from Mina. "They are SPOONING, Momo! THE ice prince himself is showing loving affection to none other than (Y/n)!" Mina made another wild grab for her phone. "As much as it is surprising, we should leave them be." Sero put in, yet quickly shut his mouth when Mina glared at him. "When will I get whisked off my feet by some beautiful individual!" Mina wailed. The group froze when they heard a low grunt. Todoroki began to stir, and the group of idlers shot off down the hall.

(Y/n) woke up from the most pleasant sleep she'd had in a long time. She was unusually warm and drowned in a familiar scent. It's only when she tried to stretch that she realised a strong arm was secured protectively around her waist. She then became acutely aware of how her back was pressed up against something. Someone. She could feel the warm, soft breaths tickle the back of her neck. The knot in her stomach seemed to flip as she recalled the events of last night. She tried to calm her racing nerves, but imagining how Todoroki was peacefully sleeping beside her was not helping. She took a deep breath, swiftly deciding she'd accept this predicament. She closed her eyes again, letting out a content sigh as she nestled deeper into his embrace.
