CHAPTER 3
SOFEA
Mother made sure I was going to be alright before I start my first day as a nurse. Here in Quezilious, you could be anything you wanted to be based on what you come from. Both my parents are Humans. I work with the Germinies, borned as healers.
Every one here worked together. One of our greatest helpers here, we call her Ju because she could not speak. She was somehow mute. According to her symbol writings, she is a Magrix who came from an island called Decarte Island. We could not get her real name so we called her Ju. Her sister was the ruler of Decarte Island that threw her out and found herself here. My mother used to tell me how dangerous it is outside the borders. Ju was lucky to have found herself here. Quezilious was just a place where no different creature mixed around until she came about bringing every one together. My mother was there to experience that. The lake were the borders and no one was allowed out of it. It was a mutual understanding. However, one of our friends, her name was Ginger went missing two days ago. Ginger was my mother's best friend's daughter. She was like a childhood friend.
I met Kylie, a Germinie at the healing room. Today was my first day as a Human healer. I have studied with them for two years on different type of healings for different type of sickness for different type of creatures. I enjoyed helping people and therefore this was one of the way I could make up for that interest. Kylie was sort of 40 years old, based on her Germinie years. But she was about my age in the Human years. I personally think she was like a 6 year old. The thing about Germinies are, they act like they are three times younger than their actual age. Germinies have naturally dark green hair and blue eyes. All of them. They were tall as us Humans but their hands were very flexible. As it can bend in certain angles. This allowed them to touch every part of someone's body while doing something else with another part of the body. Some would say they were creepy but I found it cool. If I had a choice, I would want that specialty too. Of course, for that particular reason.
I walked past patients like Wingers or Greenies. Every one recognised me from the past two years of training to be a healer. They greeted me as I came to them to monitor their conditions. As break time came, I walked towards to lakeside with Kylie. We ate our favourite Hucana Jam and Starchies. They were like cereal but better. They have more than enough nutrients for any type of creature. These kind of food are created by Nutrixes. A Nutrix is gifted with two hands that comes with secret recipes. That was how they were able to make our food. They take a particular object and place the recipe of a certain food with a certain amount of nutrients and they make up a name. They were the food makers. How often do you see someone making food from a leaf? Those are Starchies. They put the recipe into the leaf and tear them to shreds, making them to small pieces. A Nutrix is something like the Greenies except they weren't exactly trees. They were more like short walking rocks. Slim rocks. Legend says Nutrixes are heavy because they contain all kinds of recipes in them. Therefore it had to be stored somewhere.
While we were eating by the lakeside, I saw something swimming, and shouting for help. Kylie and I looked at each other, helpless. None of us knew how to swim. Kylie then ran to one of the Merpeople and our senior Merperson, Luis came rushing in the lake to help that creature. I was not sure what was it but it definitely needed our help.
One thing we learn here in Quezilious is to be kind.
When Luis came to back, I saw what looked like a Merperson with a broken fin. That was why he couldn't swim here. Luis brought him to shore and rushed him to the healing room. That was when Kylie and I got to work. We checked his fin as it was nearly peeling off. It looked like something bit it and wanted to tear him apart. We gave him some pain killers and antibiotics. He looked really young. Probably 20 years Mer-years, 13 human years. We let him rest as he settles down. If he was from Quezilious, Luis would have known him. He told us he didn't recognised him and he didn't think that he was here.
Then where was he from?
"Where do you think he came from?" I asked, Kylie.
She shrugged, "No idea, Sofea. I don't know any other world besides Quezilious."
I nodded, "That's true. It's like we're stuck here or something."
Kylie took a sip of her drink, "Did you find that Ginger friend of yours?"
I shook my head. Thinking about Ginger made my heart ache. I miss her. Where could she be?
Just then, after few hours of waiting, the Merguy opened his eyes and looked at us. He looked confused and angry all at once.
"Where am I?"
