"Max, go get ready, sweetie" Max's mom told her. It was the weekend, which meant that the Mitchells were taking their kids, Max and Mikey, to the park once again.

Other kids would brighten up when their parents tell them they're taking them to the park, but Max and Mikey weren't like that.

Fourteen year old Max was stuck with her nine year old brother who was pretty hyper, so she would have to take responsibility every single weekend.

Angel and George, their parents, pretty much wanted to take them somewhere cooler, just if they had the enough money.

"At least this looks presentable?" Max mumbled, looking in the mirror as she placed her black Batman sweater on her body.

Max has been a superhero fan ever since she was around seven. Her own brother thinks it's stupid, but she never hesitated to give him three hour lectures about why he's wrong.

The teenager groaned, deciding to finally wear the Batman shirt after hesitating for fifteen minutes. She didn't have the urge of brushing her messy black hair, so she just put it in a messy bun.

"Ugh! You're wearing this batman shirt again?" her brother said with a dramatic, disgusted look on his face. "He's actually way stronger than you think, so he's twice as powerful as you will ever be!" Max smirked at Mikey who pretended he wasn't speechless by rolling his eyes.

"Wise men say

Only fools rush in

But I can't help

Falling in love

With you"

Max sang, Mikey singing along to his favorite song as they sat on a big circular swing in which three to four people could sit in.

"Shall I Stay?

Would it be a sin-"

She got interrupted by a little dark-skinned girl who had her black hair in neat space buns. She climbed next to them on the swing.

"Hi!" the girl said. "I'm Darla"

Max opened her mouth to reply, but she got stopped by a boy talking behind her.

"Darla! Come back" the boy yelled.

"No, it's fine. She can... stay" Max replied. Turning to look at the curly haired boy who was around her age, she noticed him holding a crutch to help him stand and support himself.

"Are you sure about that?" the freckled boy replied. "Like, she could get really annoying sometimes"

"Look, boy, I've been pretty much used to being around annoying people" she gestured at her brother who was still on her lap "so it shouldn't be a trouble. Besides, I don't think this sweetheart right here is annoying so I'm fine with her"

Darla blushed as the other boy let out a sigh.

"You know what? Fine. Darla, stay with her 'cause I really don't feel like running after you and take care of you. Take care of her, please" the boy replied, pointing at Darla as Max nods.

The boy turns around to go, but it was as if he remembered something, so he tuned to face Max again.

"I'm Freddy, by the way" he says. "Max" she gives him a big smile. She just made a friend.

Max doesn't really have any friends. Everyone in school would make fun of her love for superheroes. "You're a girl. You shouldn't like heroes" was the sentence she was most used to hearing.

"Max, Max" Freddy repeated, making sure he doesn't forget her name. "You have a nice voice, Max"

As Freddy turned to go, he saw two guys getting in the park, and it was obvious that he was panicking on the inside. He quickly limped as fast as he could and hid behind a tree before they saw him.

"Oh, these are the Breyer brothers. They always hurt Freddy in school" Darla said as Max looked at the two guys. They honestly looked creepy.

"Hey, Mikey, how about you go play on the trampoline? Okay? Take care. Oh, and don't hurt other kids" Max told Mikey as they both got up, leaving Darla alone. The two kids went in different directions.

"You know these guys?" Max asked, pointing at the boys as she stood in front of the tree that Freddy was hiding behind.

"What are you doing here?!" Freddy looks at her in shock as if she freaked him out. "Go away! They're gonna think you're talking to a tree and they're gonna start picking on you too!" he said with on breath.

"They pick on you?" she whisper shouted before he nodded.

"You see all this?" he said, raising his shirt and showing the bruises on his stomach. "They did it"

Max stared at the boy in shock and terror. She took a few steps back as she was heavily breathing and looked at the Breyers to find them laughing and approaching her.
