"Silvius! Are you packed yet?!" My mom called from the other room.

"Almost done, Mom!" I yelled back. I was almost finished, but I wasn't rushing it. On Monday, I would leave for Evanor University. Evanor would be my ninth boarding school, and I wanted to keep a good record there. I was kicked out of the last eight for various reasons. I'm not a bad kid or anything, but I have terrible luck with schools.

"Need help?" Jonah says as he walks into my room.

"I'm fine, thank you." I say sternly. Jonah is my mom's new boyfriend. I'm not a big fan of him. He's a nice guy and everything, but he's trying to replace my real dad (who I have never even met) and is pressuring my mom to marry him. Jonah isn't a big fan of kids, either. Im sure if they marry, he'll drop me off at an orphanage or something. He seriously thinks there is something wrong with me.

"Okay, Silbius," he says. He's been living with us for three months and still can't get my name right. "I'll be in the kitchen with your mom then. Call me if you need help, okay?"

I know the only reason he's offering to help me is because I'll be out of the house by Monday.

I pack a few more shirts and a pair of jeans and head into the kitchen, where Mom and Jonah are sharing a few cookies and coffee. I reach over to take a cookie.

Jonah slaps my hand. "No. These are for your mom, not you. Go finish packing."

I give him a death stare and walk back into my room. For the very first time, I was looking forward to Evanor.
