"You still wanna get him a present?"
Albert slowly nodded.
Jake pulled Albert away from the sight of them. Albert's head drooped as they walked the other way to check out and leave, while narrowly avoiding them. Jake made sure neither saw the other. The cashier sighed, letting out many unhappy feelings. Those feelings weren't as bitter as Albert's, who was quiet the whole way to Best Buy as he watched the raindrops fall down the window.
"We're here,"
Albert looked up at Jake, a tear making its way down his face.
"It's okay, Albert," Jake wiped off the tear, "I doubt he's gay."
"Let me remind you I have a crush on him."
"Sorry. You'll be okay. I swear. Time will heal you."
They both got out of the car, and Albert didn't bother to put up his hood.
"Alright, I want to get something, too. Meet back here in 20?"
Albert sadly nodded.
Jake pat his back and walked off.
Albert slowly walked to the phone section, nothing but upset thoughts swirling around his mind. His steps had no pep, and his brain was torn between the present for Elijah and sadness. He looked up and saw a big sign with a rainbow that said, "EQUALITY FOR ALL. PROFITS TO LGBTQ+ ORGANIZATIONS." (ofc not all but idk what else to put ;) He walled over to the phone and picked it up. It was the newest phone, the iPhone XS.
I guess I should buy it, Albert thought. But it is 1000 bucks.. whatever.
While Albert waited to purchase the phone, he thought about Elijah and the guy he was hanging out with. If he is gay, he could be dating that guy. But if he isn't, then there's no chance he'll date me.
Albert sighed. "What. A. Day."
He kept walking, head down, until he rammed into something........ or someone.
"Oh.. sorry," said the man's soft voice.
"It's... okay," Albert looked up and saw who stood in front of him. He didn't know the man, but he was the cutest person Albert has ever seen- besides Elijah, of course. His perfectly chiseled face, dark mysterious eyes and skinny figure. His name tag read Jett with a tiny smiley face.
"You getting the new phone?"
Albert nodded.
"It's a great phone, really. Especially since some of the profits go to LGBTQ+ organizations. And since I'm gay, I'd buy a million if I could. But I can't, that's why I'm workin' here."
Albert chuckled, to Jett's delight. His slight accent that only popped up rarely reminded Albert of Elijah. "I am, too." he added weakly.
"Oh, really?" Jett seemed interested.
Albert saw Elijah out of the corner of his eye. Elijah?! He's talkin' to Jake? Oh lord. Elijah glanced at Albert, and once he realized he was talking to another guy, he looked back at Jake, seemed a bit hurt, said something to Jake, and left.
"Yeah," Albert responded.
"Do you, maybe want to go out?" Jett asked carefully.
Albert suddenly got a boost of confidence. This is my chance, he thought. To prove to myself how much I love him.
"No, sorry. This phone is for my boyfriend, since he dropped his."
"Ah. Bummer." Jett sighed.
"Yeah. Well, have a good day," Albert immediately walked away and smiled.
But when Albert began to return to Jake, he thought more about Elijah. And quickly became upset.
