ON A BAD DAY, PIPER CANT CONTROL HER EMOTIONS, THUS CAUSING DAMAGE TO ANYTHING SHE TOUCHES. She could not believe she had let her abilities slip through her fingertips, allowing Peter to be shocked. Luckily, it wasn't major, but who knows what could have happened if she had grabbed his hand a little harder. Piper ran through the streets of Queen as fast as she could to go back home. She wanted to be as far as way from society as she could in fear of having another uncontrolled outbreak.
Piper being too into her head didn't even realize the person in front of her until she collided head-on with them. Piper fell straight onto the cold hard concrete with a shriek. "Oh my gosh! I am so sorry." She exclaimed, looking up to see a familiar face.
"Slow down, racer! Here, let me help you up." The voice of Tomás Cortéz spoke. He grabbed Piper by the hands and gently pulled her off the gum covered concrete."Look at you! You're so grown up now. What has it been? Like four years, huh?"
Piper looked at the man that had saved her life oh so many years ago. He had aged since the last time she saw him. His hair no longer the chestnut color she had loved so much but now streaked with silver. He looked much more tired with wrinkles lining his forehead and bags resting under his eyes. Tomás was the one who took care of her after the accident until she went into her first foster home. The two had kept in touch over the years through text but moving from foster home to foster home Piper just got lost in the system.
"Uh, yeah it's been a while. How have you been? Are you still working at the station?" Piper asked, brushing the dirt from off her jeans.
"No, I uh actually got promoted to be in the FBI. I'm working for the top dogs now." Tomás chuckled, looking down on the girl.
"Wow, that's amazing! I remember your training for that when I was little." Piper commented, recalling those moments. She had remembered sitting in the park, watching him prepare himself for the agility portion of the test. He would be doing push-ups while she colored in her notebook.
"Yeah, all that blood, sweat, and tears really paid off." Tomas laughed, "Enough about me what's got you running so fast at nine-o-clock at night? Is someone following you?" Tomas' police persona was starting to show, as he scanned the streets around them for someone.
"No-no! No one is following me. I-I was just out with friends and I lost track of time and went past my curfew. I really need to get home before my foster mom gets mad." Piper stuttered, hoping that he didn't see right through her lie.
