*Your POV*

I was out on the field fighting, just like any other mission. Bucky wasn't too far behind me, aiming and shooting his rifle in various different directions. I was surrounded by explosions and gunshots, none of them close enough to harm me but still close enough to have fear buried in the back of my mind.

There was something off about today. There was some sort of gut feeling that gave me chills. I was being easily distracted, I was missing shots, pulling sloppy moves. I guess I was having an off day. I tried to shake every thought out of my head but my mind kept going back to the same thing; Bucky.

Every couple minutes I would sneak glances over to him, feeling a slight panic until I saw him. Fighting his best, as usual. Nothing out of the ordinary. I saw the reflection of the sun off of his vibranium arm.

I ignored the uneasy feeling in my stomach, continuing in battle. I dodged a grenade thrown in my direction, diving and rolling the opposite way. I jumped up from the ground, going to continue on my mission before I heard a yelp of pain.

I spun around frantically, trying to find the source of the cry.

"Y/N," I heard someone croak out, "Y/N, please."

Bucky.

Panic settled into me as I spotted him on his knees, his hand over his abdomen. I sprinted from my position, shooting anything that came my or Bucky's way.

I skidded to a stop next to him, right as he collapsed off of his knees and onto the ground. Right as I stopped he looked up at me with a small, pained smile.

"Hey doll," he whispered out to where only I could hear him.

"Hey soldier..." I responded in a shaking voice, looking down at his stomach.

There was a gaping wound where his hand was and blood was practically pouring out of him. I could hardly see the metal of the bullet that had penetrated his abdomen. I looked back up to his face, my chest heaving.

"God, what happened to you?" I asked, searching around me for any kind of cloth or anything to slow the bleeding. My eyes were full or tears that were running down my face.

"I guess I wasn't paying enough attention," He answered.

I grabbed a nearby piece of clothing that had been shredded in the battlefield, pressing it firmly against his wound. He winced in pain and I looked up at him with sympathy.

"Let's get you fixed up and back to Banner's care. He'll get you back together," I said, optimistically.

He looked at me with teary eyes and used all his strength to pull his hand up to my face. He gave me a knowing look that made my heart start beating out of control.

"No, no, no Bucky. You're going to be okay, alright? We're going to get you back to the headquarters and Bruce is going to fix you up and you're going to be okay. We're going to laugh about this later on and live the rest of our lifes together. We're gonna tell our kids about this later on and everything will be fine. It has to be," More tears pooled in my eyes as I tried to suppress a sob, but failed when Bucky shook his head.

"Y/N," He said softly, rubbing his thumb along my cheek.

I shook my head, putting my hand over his and holding onto it.

"Please no," I begged, "I can't let you leave me, Bucky, I can't lose you, you're all that I have, please dont go."

Tears began dripping down his face as he tried his best to pull me towards him. I cradled his head in my lap, running my fingers through his hair, causing the blood from my hand to streak through it.

"I'm s-sorry darling," He choked out.

I elicited another sob from my mouth as he turned to his side and started coughing violently.

"I'm sorry that I have to leave you, but you're going to be just fine without me. I promise. Time will go by and you'll find someone who makes you happy. Someone who will love you just as much as I do," He continued, occasionally having to stop so he could catch his breath.

"James..." I whispered, holding him closer to me. He raised his eyebrows ever so slightly. "I love you, more than anything."

He gave me a small smile as he grabbed my hand in his.

"I love you too doll. Please promise me one thing,"

"Anything,"

"Please don't let this hold you back from living your life. You're so strong and beautiful and smart and I know you can make it out of this. Don't let me take your life away from you," he was almost begging me, a saddened and pained expression on his face.

"I promise," I cried, leaning down to kiss him softly.

He put both his hands on my cheeks as I wrapped my arms around him, trying to savor his last moments. He pulled back, resting his forehead against mine.

"I love you, Y/N," he whispered, tears still making their way down both of out faces.

"I love you too, Bucky. I'll see you soon,"

And with a final smile, his body went limp against mine. I held his body close to my chest as I sobbed loudly against him. He was gone.

Really, really gone.
