BAILEY'S P.O.V.
______________________
I woke up naturally at about 9:00 this morning. I quickly realized that Mrs. Mendes never gave me a time to come over today to meet Aaliyah, so I texted her and asked. She answered immediately and said 11:00 would be fine.
I changed into athletic clothes and went downstairs, where my dad was sitting at the kitchen table reading the newspaper. I told him I'd be back soon. I'm glad it was Saturday so my dad had today off from work.
I looked for my gym shoes and I realized that the big pile they were in was gone. I had forgotten to clean it up, and my dad did it himself. I really need to get on top of these things. My dad already does so much for me, I didn't need him doing these simple things too.
I left the house without saying anything else. I was going on a short run. About 15 minutes in, I realized that the sky was getting pretty dark, I thought it might rain soon, so I headed home, and when I got there, it was only 9:30. I still had an hour.
I made my dad and I some eggs and bacon and we ate breakfast together.
After breakfast, I headed upstairs to my room that was connected to my bathroom. I checked the time before I jumped in the shower. It was about 10:00, so I still had some time.
When I was done, I let my hair air dry into it's natural long brown waves.
I put on a black and white Aztec print tanktop with a black bandeau underneath. I paired it with dark denim shorts and a thick brown belt.
Finally, I was ready to go and I decided to walk there. I didn't think it was going to rain just yet so I decided to walk.
I got there right on time, and Mrs. Mendes greeted me at the door.
"Hi, Bailey! I'm so glad you could make it!"
"Thank you, I'm excited to be here!"
She smiled. "Come in, come in."
"Okay, I'll start off by showing you around the house - "
"Hi! I'm Aaliyah!" A pretty girl with brown hair and big brown eyes looked up at me.
"Hi Aaliyah, I'm Bailey!" I replied enthusiastically.
She looked a little shy and nervous at this point so she ran upstairs.
Mrs. Mendes continued to show me around the house, telling me certain things that I needed to know in order to babysit for Aaliyah.
When we got to the family room, I saw someone that I never expected to see.
He was wearing a black t-shirt, dark jeans, and black vans. He was watching tv and he had his feet resting on the coffee table in front of him.
Mrs. Mendes coughed, signaling for him to come meet me. He didn't even turn around.
"Um Shawn. Do you mind coming over here?"
His low voice murmured a "why.."
"This is going to be Aaliyah's babysitter on Tuesdays and Thursdays." She said politely.
"Okay.."
She gave him a look that said 'Introduce yourself or else your in trouble later'.
"Uh, hi. I'm Shawn. Wait, don't you go to Riverside high school with me?"
"Um..yeah. I've seen you around a few times I think." I replied quietly.
"Yeah.." He said quietly.
"Well, I think I'm going to just go to the store really quickly and I'll be back in about 20 minutes. You can start to get to know Aaliyah and Shawn will be here if you need anything."
I was thankful that she changed the subject before it got any more awkward.
I didn't expect her to leave me alone with Aaliyah right away. I thought she wanted to get to know me more before she just left me here with her daughter. Well, Shawn is here too I guess so we're not completely alone.
After Mrs. Mendes left, I just sat with Aaliyah and talked, getting to know her. She asked me a lot of questions about high school, and those were easy to answer. I was acting sort of as an older sister to her. I liked that.
Finally, when Mrs. Mendes returned, she asked how everything went. I told her that Aaliyah was so sweet and that I would definitely take the job for this Summer.
"Great, thanks so much, Bailey. We'll see you Tuesday." She started to open the door for me and realized that I didn't bring my car. It had started raining.
"It's okay, really. I can walk." I tried to convince her.
"No, no. Shawn can drive you real quick."
"No, really, it's fine. I don't want to bother you." I didn't want Shawn to drive me home. Honestly, he scared me a little bit. The group he hung around with made him scary. I didn't want to have to converse with him.
Before I could protest anymore, she had already ran inside to get Shawn.
He stumbled out of the house, not even glancing at me once.
His truck was so high that I had to jump up to the step and pull myself onto the seat.
He just watched me struggle with this task. I could see him smirking, as he put his key in the ignition. I finally buckled myself in, but he did not do the same.
Neither of us said a word the entire time, and it was extremely awkward. I glanced over at him. He had one hand on the steering wheel and the other resting on his lap.
I probably looked like an idiot, fidgeting and squirming. I couldn't help it, he made me really uncomfortable. I've heard stories about him, and I didn't know if they were true. I was scared to find out though, so I didn't ask anything.
Finally, after what seemed like hours but was only minutes, he pulled into my driveway.
"Um, thank you." I said, my voice higher pitched than I had intended.
He just nodded his head once at me and then he pulled out of the driveway.
I know I'll be taking my own car every time I go over there, from now on.
