It was 6:30 of April 13th. A delightful Monday in Kaiji Shimomura's life.
Kaiji was the oldest son of the family of four. He was 16 years, born on July 11th, 1999, in Yokohama. That dark messy hair almost in front of his eyes was quite a trademark for him.
He opened his eyes, checking the environment around him.
He noticed he was inside his bedroom. From his point of view, he could see the window, shining in front of him. His desk was tidy. He left his backpack over the desk. Some books were being kept there, all of them were study books. His guitar was held near the desk, between the desk and the window.
His school clothes were hanging at the closet's door. It was totally neat and unused. He hadn't used the uniform, Indicating that he was a transfer student.
Kaiji took some moments to think if it was time to go or if there was room to sleep a little bit while talking to himself.
"It's finally morning?"
He took a deep breath and got out of his bed.
"Time for the first day in the new school."
It was a school day for Kaiji. He took his blue with a white-detailed jacket, his white shirt, his black pants, his old shoes and his old rusty black backpack.
Kaiji was definitely ready to go.
He took his time to check his guitar, an all black-colored Fender Stratocaster that he bought several years ago. Dust and wear could be noticed from afar. But he doesn't care about it because he loved that guitar since day one.
The strings were changed recently by Kaiji himself. He usually keeps a box with some tools for the guitar under his bed. It was like a first-aid kit for ill people.
"Good morning, my dear friend."
Kaiji sat down on his black chair, took his guitar, which was resting near the window and played some chords. That practice was done by Kaiji almost every morning when he's not too late.
Kaiji was considered an advanced guitarist. He took years and years of training with teachers to achieve that level at his age. We could proclaim him an "Einstein of Guitars" in Japan.
After some morning practice, he finally stopped playing randomly.
"Well, you're fine for now. And I am too..."
15 minutes elapsed, and he finally took his guitar away. He stood up and put the guitar at the same place again. He needed to get out of his bedroom.
"See you later."
Kaiji stepped out of the door and walked downstairs, heading to the kitchen.
Reaching there, he noted a smell coming from the kitchen. He noticed someone cooked something and that something was waiting for him at the table. He came near and recognized his breakfast. His breakfast was rolled egg and bread.
"Diiiiiiivine..."
"It looks like someone liked."
The voice coming from the outside of the kitchen. A little feminine voice that he recognized promptly.
A little girl appeared in the kitchen dressed in her yellow shirt and a black skirt, holding her all-black not-so-expensive shoes with her left hand. That little girl was someone who Kaiji knows well.
"Good morning, Miho-chan."
It was Miho, his sister.
Miho is Kaiji's younger sister. She is only 12 years old years and study on Izumi Elementary, just some blocks from the Shimomura's household. She was short, around 1,38 meters, but that can't stop her when we talk about sports. She is also trying a place in sports like her mother did.
Her neck long, straight hair was unique. For Kaiji, that haircut could make her very cute. It was Miho's charm for her little cute appearance.
"Good morning, Onii-chan."
"Aren't you ready to go?"
Incredibly, she was late to get ready. And that was a common thing in the morning.
"I know, I know. But someone has to prepare the breakfast. Right?"
Suddenly, he remembered he can't cook something so simple like eggs. Although Kaiji's not so bad at cooking. He could do things that need a little bit of practice, like yakisoba and katsudon. But totally easy things like eggs or hamburger could be a challenge for Kaiji. Especially because he's very practical when things are difficult by its normal way.
Miho sat down in front of Kaiji to take her breakfast. That shining plate was smiling at her, saying it was delicious, even if she doesn't try it by herself.
"Onii-chan, do you know where the school is?"
"Of course. It's just some miles away from the old school."
"Are you sure?"
"Miho..."
He was almost groaning. She panicked a little bit. She naturally knew he was definitely not happy about what she said to him.
"Don't worry, you can find it yourself. Now don't be late."
"Who is not ready yet?"
At that moment, she was annoyed because he was bullying her somehow.
SMACK!
That slap really hit Kaiji's arm hard.
"DON'T TELL JOKES ABOUT ME!!! IDIOT!!!"
After that slap and many apologies from Kaiji, they took their enjoyable times together like this. Like every single day in the morning.
"Do you want something for dinner, Onii-chan?"
"Your choice."
He gave a go to her to select what to eat. She had one food in her mind. And she doesn't need thinking twice about that.
"Udon!!!"
He sighed a little bit. But he really knew he had to agree.
"All right, we'll eat udon."
"UDOOOOOOON!!!"
Udon was Miho's favorite food. She likes so much as she likes her brother. And when she wants udon, then he had to prepare a package of money to buy some ingredients.
"I'll go to the supermarket later, so I'll buy us some udon, okay?"
"OKAAAAAY!"
She was on another planet, thinking loud about udon. Udon was everything to her at that moment.
She, somehow, came to Earth quickly and asked his brother.
"Onii-chan, did our parents come back yesterday?"
"Well..."
His parents are usually busy with their works. His father, Yuuji Shimomura, works as a manager of a record company. His mother, Shoujo Shimomura, works as a writer. She was an LPGA golfer until she was forced to retire after a shoulder injury 10 years ago. They typically work until later when they are at their offices, so Miho and Kaiji are alone at most of the time.
Miho usually feels alone when her parents are not at home. She relies on her brother when she needs. Kaiji comprehends that and knows how difficult it is to her to tell their parents aren't at home.
"They didn't, right?"
"Not exactly. I heard they were in a meeting, so they arrived late."
"I see."
"Well, did you finish your breakfast?"
"Yes!"
"Now get your things. We gotta get going."
"All right, brother."
Kaiji usually doesn't mention to her, but he was proud of her. Kaiji thinks she's growing up day by day mentally, even when she doesn't behave like someone of her age.
Miho took her backpack and meet Kaiji in front of the house. She locked the door, observing both cars, a white Honda Jade 2014 and a red Toyota Prius 2012, parked. They concluded that both are sleeping, safe and sound.
"See you later, Miho."
She left running towards Izumi Elementary like she usually does every morning.
"Come back safely, Onii-chan!"
And then he walked outside home, towards Izumino Station, downhill from his home. It was time to meet his new school, the "so-famed" Central Asahi High School.
