I sit patiently waiting for my groom to come home. I fiddle with the hem of my wrap blouse as I glance at the clock on the wall facing me. Six thirty it read. I read Abdul's text for the tenth time.
I'll be back by 5:30. X it said.
What is keeping him? His food is getting cold. At the thought of his food, I smile. I cooked fried rice and grilled fish, I was so sure he would love it and I couldn't keep down the excitement of wanting to watch him eat it. I wasn't sure of his preferences yet when it came to food but I wanted to win his heart with my culinary skills. Besides, seeing as we just got married, it is a safe dish to cook.
Just then, the sound of a horn cut through my thoughts and I scramble to the window. My groom is back, finally!
I watch as he alights from his car in a black cufflinks kaftan with his zanna bukar cap perched perfectly atop his head. He looks dashing I thought for the third time today. Like a giddy little girl, I run to the door or rather shuffle to the door because of my inability to run in my straight grey skirt.
I open the door and wait for him, upon seeing me, his face breaks into a smile.
"How is my bride doing?" He asks with a small smile.
" She is fine." I answer shyly shutting the door
" Sorry, I'm late. I still had some things to attend to at the office and it took some time."" Do you have to go to this office everyday ne? I say pouting.
"Do you want me to?"
Yeah sure I think mentally rolling my eyes.
" Of course not, you should be given leave ai."
" Someone wants to spend time with me I guess. " He says looking amused and at the same time trying not to laugh.
I playfully hit him on the arm, blushing.
" Ow! Haba. Okay, the leave starts tomorrow, are you happy?"
" Maybe." I say looking away trying to conceal a smile.
I move to go to the kitchen when he holds my hand. I turn to look at him.
" Are you annoyed?" He says frowning.
" Abdul, like seriously? Do I look annoyed?"
" Mmm, maybe" he says with amusement in his eyes as they search my face.
"Ko?"
"Mhm"
He intertwines our fingers and pulls me closer till I am right in front of him with just a few inches between us.
" Aisha, are you sure?" He says grinning as his cool breath fans my face.
" Absolutely." I whisper smiling.
