The Past:

It had been a few weeks now that Freya and Kubera had been gone. It had been so long since Mercury had come to school but he decided today was the day he was going to pull himself together. He dreaded it but he knew it would make his mom and everyone at school happy to know he was doing alright. Was he though? No, probably not. The police had no leads on where Freya might be. Mercury was scared she was dead. He didn't know what he would do then.

No. She's out there. He thought to himself. He had to hold out hope for her.

Mercury walked into his mom's bedroom. She hadn't gotten out of bed in ages. "Mom, I'm heading to school."

"Okay." She said. That was all he got nowadays. Even her boyfriend got more out of her.

The walk to school was boring. Normally, Freya walked with him and even if they didn't speak, at least he wasn't alone. He felt alone now.

After a dreadful walk to school, Mercury finally made it. He stood still in front of the entrance. You can still turn back. Mercury thought. It's okay. You tried.

He turned around and there she was. Selene. She looked...depressed. Like she hadn't slept. He noticed her hands were shaking.

"I'll go with you," She let out a forced smile. She was attempting to be comforting.

"Okay," Mercury said, holding her shaking hand. What was with the shakes?

They strolled slowly through the halls. It was if everything stopped. Literally. Everyone was staring.

Mercury stopped at Freya's locker. It didn't look like hers anymore. It was covered in flowers and notes. One of the notes stood out. It was from a teacher. She prayed that Freya was alright. Selene pulled him.

     "Come on, let's go."

"I never knew people cared this much."

"You're sister was a really nice girl." She did not just say that.

"She is a nice girl. Not was." Selene looked at Mercury pleading. "She's still alive!"

     "I know. I'm sorry."

Mercury shook his head and walked off. He wanted to be far away from her.

"Mercury!" She yelled in his direction. He didn't turn around.

He felt so stupid. This had been such a bad idea. Home. He wanted to go home.
