The Past:

Every muscle loosened as Mercury walked home from Selenes. He was completely and utterly calm, having never felt better. After Selene had shared about her horrible day yesterday she shared a wonderful bit of information with Mercury.

"I've been feeling really lost lately." Selene had admitted. "And every time I get high I just forget everything. It's like nothing matters." She had paused with tears in her eyes. "I kiss other guys Mercury but I always forget that I have. My life is just a big cloud of smoke... I... I forget everything."

"I won't lie, it bothers me that you kiss other guys but..." He thought for a moment. "As long as you always come back to me... or... let me say it this way: As long as you're trying to stop and get better it's okay." He put his hand on hers. "Getting rid of addiction is a process, let me help you, we'll...we'll set some milestones, and I'll research it. We'll get help."

Selene was sobbing at this point. She got up from her chair and hugged Mercury. "Yeah." She said. "Yeah."

Mercury knew now that Selene was worth it. She was just lost as she had put it. He felt amazing. It was only uphill from here.

As he neared the house he saw a police car outside the house. He walked up the porch steps and then inside. Two cops were in the living room talking to Mom.

"Hey sweetheart, come sit down." Mom had been crying, Mercury noticed. He sat down.

"These nice men were just telling me that they've filed a missing person's report for Freya."

"Okay." Mercury wasn't very interested in this. Freya would come home. Mom put her arm around her son. One of the policemen at that exact moment got a call from headquarters. "Excuse me." He walked outside to talk.

"Usually we get a lot of teenage run-offs." The other policeman said. "It's not uncommon. Just trust she'll come home when..."

"No my daughter's not like that. She loves it here, she loves school. Why would she run-off?"

"She was with a boy right? And he's a bad boy, he does a lot of drugs since you said he was supposedly passed out when Freya and him left?"

"Yeah, you're totally right," Mercury said since he knew Kubera well. "I could see Kubera wanting to run away. Maybe Freya decided to go with him." He turned to his mom. "She's reasonable. She'll realize she's doing the wrong thing."

"It's just not like her." Mom said with tears threatening to fall at any moment.

The other policeman came back in. He looked at Mom and Mercury very seriously. "They found your car with both Freya and unknown male DNA two blocks away from where she was last seen."

"Selene's house?" Mercury's mind raced. She left the car behind and walked with an intoxicated Kubera? That makes no sense.

"What? What does that mean?" Mom had begun to cry. This was traumatic for her.

"It means either Freya and Kubera walked away from the car, or we're looking at a kidnapping case."

"Kidnapping?" Mom let out the waterworks and all Mercury could do was hold her. He was frozen. He didn't know what to say or do. He felt powerless in the search to find Freya.

"It's very unlikely that a kidnapper would want a male and a female teenager. We're sending out search parties to search around the area. They couldn't have gotten far."
