Emily Abbott

My alarm went off at ten am. I turned it off, groaning from the lack of sleep I'd gotten since Dylan's went off at seven.

He'd been at the rink for over an hour now, getting stretched and ready for his first game of the tournament.

I had gotten ready relatively quick, pulling on a USA hockey sweatshirt, accompanied by a pair of sweatpants.

I met Cathryn and Collin in the lobby, walking to Collin's car. We had time to stop by a coffee shop on the way.

"This storm is looking really bad." I said from the back seat, looking out the window.

The cell phone ring rang through the car, Dylan's name showing up on the screen, Cathryn hitting the green button.

"Hey, the tournament just got cancelled, the other team is stuck like thirty miles from here in snow. Can you pick me and Jack up?"

I couldn't believe the tournament had been cancelled when we had already gotten here and everything. It felt real by the time I was squeezed in the back of my brothers car with Jack and Dylan shoulder to shoulder with me.

When we made it back to the hotel, there were an army of people waiting in line for the help desk in the lobby. A few of the players were already back from the rink, still rocking their game day suits and beanies.

Jack stood next to me, sighing and running a hand through his hair. He looked stressed.

"Dude, what are we gonna do? When are we gonna be able to leave?" He shifted his weight from one foot to the other as he texted someone.

"Hey, it's going to be fine. Let's go get a massage or something. Get you relaxed and waste some time."

Jack sighed and looked at me, before closing his eyes and nodding.

He changed out of his suit into sweatpants and met me back down by the spa, already looking more relaxed.

Not only did we get amazing massages, but I also got a pedi, painting my toes white.

Jack and I talked a lot about the NHL and his plans for the future. We talked about college and home. How it was hard being away from home so much for so long.

The rest of the day went by quick, spending most of it watching old movies with Dylan, ordering room service.

Collin and Cathryn came by to check on us, commenting on how we looked like we were hibernating.
