Chapter Five
Zayn
Everyone decided on going back to their own apartments.
"Lara, if you want, you can stay at mine for a bit." I shrugged.
"Uhh, okay." She said, and followed me out of Harrys' apartment to mine a few doors down.
Once inside, I gave Lara a brief tour.
"Toilet, bathroom, bedroom down that end, kitchen, games room, laundry, ecsetera down that end." I said simply.
My house isn't messy. Okay, maybe a bit.
"You'll uhh, probably be staying here tonight, so like, I'll uhh, show you your room." I said, leading Lara down a hall to the end.
She opened the door and stepped inside.
"Woah." She whispered. I smiled.
"Did you do this?" Lara asked as if in disbelief.
"Yeah, I've always loved Art, graffiti in particular. When I was growing up, my room was spray-painted. Took a lot to persuade Mum though... so now I have my own place, I spray-painted." I shrugged as she continued to admire the paintwork.
"It's amazing." She whispered.
I led her out of the room, and back into the Luving Room.
"Do you wanna watch a movie or something?" I asked, channel surfing.
"Sure." She shrugged, and I left it on a random horror movie.
Faintly, I heard the ringtone of my phone, and jumped up, racing up the hall into my room to answer it.
"Hey Zayn, It's Liam."
"Oh, hey mate."
"Uhh, what do you want for dinner? Niall is begging to have Nandos."
"We had that last Monday?" I said.
"Yeah I know."
"Alright, see you in 10." And with that, I hung up.
I walked back out of my room to tell Lara.
"We're going to Nandos for dinner, okay?"
She turned around and looked at me.
"Okay.'' She said.
Lara got off the couch, and we both went of to Harrys.
Louis answered with a tired look on his face.
"Can you bring something back for us?" He asked, his voice croaky. I think he had been crying. I gave him a small smile and nodded, before walking silently towards the elevator with Lara.
"No, no, no, no!" She said, her voice trembling with fear.
"What? Are you okay?" I asked her, looking at her concerned.
"Ill, uhh, meet you downstairs." She beamed, and fast-walked towards the stairs.
I shrugged and waited patiently for the lift. I know all I have to do is walk down one flight of stairs, but, ain't nobody got time for that.
I hate elevator music. It's just so... awkward. Especially when someone else is in the lift with you.
That was probably the longest 10 seconds of my life.
Lara was waiting near the elevator when I got out.
She still looked a bit worried, but covered it up with a smile.
"Are you okay?" I asked her as I led her out to my Land Rover.
"Yeah, why?" She asked.
I opened the door for her, and she gave me a thanks.
I walked over to the drivers side and jumped in as well.
"Because you looked pretty scared of the elevator. Dont you like small spaces?" I asked, and Lara looked at me with the saddest expression.
Before she started, she gave a small sigh. "Once, when I was in the orphanage, I was locked in a small room with no windows, and all I had was a grotesque mattress and bowl of water." She said blankly, looking straight ahead.
I felt instantly guilty.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't-..." I started, but was cut off.
"Zayn, it's okay, really." She said, giving me a smile but I knew it wasn't sincere.
The drive to Nandos was silent, but I thought I heard Lara singing quietly to a few songs.
Niall and Liam were already out the front when we arrived.
Niall waved excitedly and Liam gave a simple wave.
I hopped out, and hurried to Lara's door, opening it before she had the chance.
"Zayn..." She mumbled.
"Yes love?" I replied.
"Don't make me kill you."
This made me chuckle a bit, and soon we met up with the boys, and were on our way inside.
Once we were seated, Niall called the waitress over almost instantly, ready to order.
"Nialler, we know you know what you're having mate, but can you just wait a minute?" Lara begged, looking at him for a brief moment before scanning the menu again.
Niall chuckled a bit.
"Ill just come back when you're ready." The waitress smiled politely.

I pulled into the parking lot into my usual space. It was so quiet, way to quiet.
"Zayn, are you okay?" Lara asked, snapping me out if my daydream.
"What? Yeah." I replied, and got out of the car.
"I guess you're still not going in the elevator?" I asked Lara who was already at the bottom of the stairs.
"What gave you that answer?" She smirked, and began walking up the stairs.
I smiled and rolled my eyes, running after her.
When I got to the top of the stairs, I saw Lara hugging Louis, who's eyes were red and bloodshot.
I quietly walked behind the pair in my apartment, and then shut the door.
I walked over to the couch and sat down.
There was a small knock on the door.
"Zayn?"
It was Lara.
I stood up, and walked over to the door, opening it.
"Hey, come in." She gave me a small smile and stepped inside.
"Um, is it okay if I uh, go to bed?" Lara asked. I chuckled.
"Of course."
"Goodnight." She said.
"Goodnight love." And with that, she disappeared down the hall.
I hated to admit... I was falling for her. Her smile, her eyes, her politeness, her fears, her voice... I loved it all.
