"Megan. There you are I was so worried." Says Zeke running towards me and hugging me. He put his mouth up next to my ear and his voice shivered down my back "Your not leaving my sight again." He says and I know that I'm not going any where without a body guard for are while if ever. This feeling of his voice down my spine is what scares me about him but I've also learned to respect it.
"What happened?" He asks I shake my head at him
"What time is it?" I ask
"11." He says "Please what happened?" I look over his shoulder to see if Edwards friend was still there. He winks at me and then leaves putting something on the counter on the way out.
"I'll tell you later." I say "but first I need to know about your friend Connor "
"Why?" He asks half confused half worried
I walk over to where Harley left something on the counter and found a note that said
~shh~
I flipped it over. On the other side it was a business card set out like this:
Harley
12983778917
Capped
Capped? What would capped mean? And why would it be on Harley's business card. My thoughts were soon interrupted by Zeke saying "I'll go get Connor, then will you tell me?" I look down at the card in my hands and turn it over i read it over and over again.
"I talk to Connor then I'll talk you." And with that he walks straight out the door.
And as he did Zoe got up from behind the counter and asked me "who's the hottie with the black hair?"she asks raising her eyebrows.
"Seriously?" I ask, not even amused. "We are not 12." She raises her eyebrows at me again.
"He's a body guard." I say "there, you happy?" I ask
"I guess." She says
"Who's body guard?" She asks. I groan. I think about what Edward warned me. 'Don't tell anyone about this' he said
Why. What didn't he want me to tell. It can't of been that he's in the country because we know that already. Is it about Connor? But what is it about him that is so bad? There are so many questions and so few answers. Zeke soon returns with Connor. Zoe leaves the room. Soon it's just me, Zeke and Connor.
"Do you know of a man named Edward Harris?" I ask Connor
"Used to." He said
"What do you mean used to?" Said Zeke
"Well." He pauses. Stops then starts again "when I was first training for the secret service, I trained with him. Eventually I had to leave to do work on a case in Algeria, a place the secret service doesn't expand to."
"When was the last time you wherein contact with him?" I ask
"I don't know. 18 months I suppose. Hang on, why does this matter?"
"Yes why does this matter?" Asks Zeke
"Edward Harris is a suspect and you have relations, how doesn't it matter?" I ask
It's weird sometimes that you can be thinking something and hope that the person standing opposite understands what your doing but when most of the time all you can get through to them is 'understand me please'. Right now I can't understand why Zeke can't see what's going on. A friend of his knows a suspect and we had no idea. I know the suspect and hate him, but Connor, how do we know that they aren't besties for the rest of their lives. For all we know that could be.
"Meg, I have the impression you don't like me, but Edward is a suspect and the only reason I didn't tell you guys I knew him was because I didn't have the chance. I mean you run away in India god damn it." He says indicating to me
"And you go out looking for her, when was there a chance? This is the first conversation we have had, meg. Just grow up and think things through. And don't use running away as a resource."
I'm furious. Why would he tell me to grow up. I've been through more than wha most people go through in a life time. How about I shoot him in the stomach and tell him to grow up, ha? Then we will know who can run away when they are upset.
"Did you know Edward was in the country?" I ask him about to sob
"No." He said "we better go investigate this bombing though. We aren't here for a holiday."
"Okay. But first I need to talk to meg." Zeke said. Connor leaves.
"WHERE. DID. YOU. GO?" He asked me raising his voice
"I-" my voice breaks
"Look. I don't know what got into you but I do know that no sensible 21 year old girl just walks out into India." He says
I can't help it. I start to cry. I've been keeping it in all day but now...
"Why?" I yell "why am I always your responsibility? Am I not able to look after myself? In case you haven't noticed I am an adult. I can look after myself. It's not like I'm still a kid. Zeke, I need you to see this. How are we supposed to stop the planet from tearing its self apart with conflict if we can't just trust each other and are tearing our selves apart with conflict. Open your eyes. If we don't have trust then what do we have? A failed mission, a half handful of friends. Life isn't perfect but I am trying to get you to trust me." I say. I think he gets what I am saying because then he says "Don't cry. Look." He folds his arms around me "you've been through a lot today. I didn't mean to make you upset but I was worried about you. Do you know how vulnerable you can look?" He asks me holding my face in his hands forcing me to look at him. He wipes a tear from my eye. "Especially when you cry?" I laugh through a sob so it sounds kind of like a burst for air.
"Meg, I trust you. I have ever since I met you but I was worried about you, okay?" I nod."Come on." He says "let's go find ourselves a culprit." He smiles. I nod again and we walk out of the room.
