You stand by the lake, watching the small waves on the surface. The moon shines on the water, the only light source at this time at night. Of course, all students should be in bed; it's the rules. But like many other students, you had no regard for them. Especially a time like now.
You walk towards the lake and sit by the shore the water rises and falls back barely touches your toes. You take a small piece of parchment, a quill, and an inkwell. You think of everything you've done in your life. All your accomplishments, all your failures. Especially the failures. They swarm your head, reminding you about every time something went wrong, ever time you did something wrong. That's all you could think of these past days. The bad, the negative, all the things you could've done better. It clouded almost every positive thing in your mind. They seemed nonexistent now.
Then you think of your family. They raised you. Not very well, but they raised you. They're the only reason you're here right now. After all they put you through, you wanted to love them. You knew they didn't know what they were doing to you. But you couldn't find it in your heart too. If they knew or not, they paved the path, the path that leads you to right now.
Next, you thought about your friends. The ones that brightened your world. They brought you happiness. Undid some of the damaged in your mind. But it wasn't enough. You were far gone when you met them. To the point of no return. All they did was make your time longer. It was inevitable.
You wondered how it would feel. Would it be dark? Would you wake up somewhere? Is there something waiting for you? These questions spiraled in your mind. There was no way of knowing what truly lies ahead of you; it was a leap of faith.
You were leaving so much behind. Yet, you couldn't care. You felt selfish but felt no guilt.Your life isn't really yours. It doesn't hurt you once you're gone. No. It hurts the ones around you. It's them who suffer.
But you've suffered long enough. You wanted to be free. Free from the chains that tied you to this world.
And with that, it was finished. People leave a note, don't they? Well, that was yours - your final goodbye. You cast a waterproof charm on the paper and slipped it into your pocket.
You stood up and walk into the water. Deeper and deeper you went. Soon it was up to your neck. This was your last chance now, you could. Turn back, continue life, but suffer. Or you could be free, away from here, but leave everything behind.
It seems the rising tide helped you make that choice. Your senses were flooded with the water. And your limbs began to push you further down, and soon, there was no sign of light.At last, you let go. Let go of life. Of hope. Of fear. Of everything.
From afar, a certain blond watches you. Your body disappears. He waits to see if you will reappear. But after a couple of seconds, he knows you won't on your own.
Draco rushes towards the water, practically throwing himself in. Once he reaches where you disappeared, he dives down, looks for any source of life. Finally, he spots you and swims towards you. Your body kept going farther and farther down. He grabs your hand and pulls you up, swimming to shore as fast as he could. When he reached land, he laid you on your back and started pumping your chest. He had almost given up before he heard a spur of coughs and water spilling. He sees you, pale and sickly, trying to sit up. He scrambles to help you and pats your back.
"Who are you?" You ask hoarsely.
"I'm Draco. I don't believe we've met."
You sit up, "Neither do I. And for next time, if there is a next time, don't interfere with what I'm doing. Suicide is a private thing, you know." You stand up, wobbling before gaining your balance. Even then, you could walk at full speed, still shocked at the boy who had saved your life. Then you realized you had never thanked him for saving your life. Skating the thought out of your head, you scold yourself for thinking that way. Death was your choice, and he stopped you. There was nothing to thank him for.
~~~
After sneaking back into the castle, and into your common room, you lie awake, unable to find sleep. As the sun rose, you began to get ready for the day, while the others were still asleep. While doing so, you made mental notes on when would be the next time you could try again without any interferences.
Soon, everyone awoke, and the room wasn't so quiet anymore.
"Y/n? You look like shit. What happened." B/f/n asked.
"I feel like shit. I just had a rough night." You groaned.
"Do you need anything?" They asked, wanting to help you."Nah, I'm okay, let's just head to the Great Hall.
"If you say so, Y/n."
The two walk to breakfast, even though you had no intention of eating.
You sit down, and you find beings to talk with some other students in your house. Bored, you look around the hall. A pair of stormy blue eyes meet yours. You look away and stand up, making your way to the doors.
'Y/n? Where are you going?' Your friend shouts from behind you. Ignoring them, you keep walking until you can't hear the ruckus of the students anymore.
Foots steps echo behind you. You don't have to turn around to know who it was.
"What do you want!" You sneer, turning on your heel," You already ruined my plan, what else do you want to mess up for me!"
Draco is taken back by your anger. He stops in his tracks before speaking."I want to help," He takes a step forward," You left your note, I read everything. I want to help you through this."
"You can't help me." You say, no emotion in your voice," Just leave me alone."
He takes another step forward, "At least let me try! If I can make you feel better; make some of these feelings go away; then you let continue to help you. If it doesn't, then we continue with our lives, and I won't bother you again. All I need is a week." He begs you.
Sighing, you agree to the deal, "Fine, after this, you'll leave me alone, right?""If I cant help you, then yes." He responds.
"Let's just get this over with." You say, walking towards your class. You had no intention of here for more than a week.
~~~
You didn't think this deal would help at all. If no one else could help, how would he? It turns out; he could.
Every negative emotion, you tried to keep private. You bottled it up, hiding it from the world.But with Draco, he knew how you were feeling; you didn't have to hide it from him.
Years worth of sadness and anger spilled out of you. And it felt amazing, finally able to express how you were feeling, and talk about it.
With your friends, you never told them anything. So they didn't know to help you. You didn't have anyone, now you do.
When a week passes, you don't want to admit it, but you felt better. You agreed to this dealing, thinking that you were unfixable. But now you have to keep your end of the bargain.
~~~
Weeks pass as you a Draco get to know each other better. Finding out that Draco had the same issues as you, and still has some of them now. You help each other. Make each other feel like they belong.
Your friends begin to smile a bit brighter, and you seem happier. They ask you about it, but you just pass them off, saying that you haven't changed. But you've changed tremendously. All thanks to Draco.
