4 If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself.

5 And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:
Exodus 21:4-5

Thomas recalled his mother speaking the gospel words often. He enjoyed imagining he was small again, and she was standing just in front of him - but he was no longer a child, and he was no where near his mother.
Oh, how he longed to hear her cloying voice just once again!
When he revolted being sent to work for his uncle thirteen years ago, his parents had shunned him.
Now, as Thomas approached the town, fears churned inside him.
If harvest was not plentiful, would he be beaten yet again?
The man flinched at the thought of the whip piercing his skin.
"Not this year, not ever again" he thought.
His uncle, the Duke of Hawkglen, ruled over the small town surrounding his manor house. As instructed, Thomas hobbled down the hill to collect taxes, and find out how much wheat was harvested this year.
It's a easier life than many live, he contemplated, yet it was not the one he wanted.
He had heard stories of faraway lands, brave adventurers, fair maidens: but none were within reach.
None were real.
He stopped walking, contemplation smearing across his young face, then suddenly turned towards the sky.
"WHY AM I THIS LOATH-FULL CREATURE, WHEN MY PETTY UNCLE GETS A CROWN! IT'S NOT FAIR!"
And then the lightning struck. He had not seen the clouds darken or the shadowed figure cackle as it arched towards its prey.

As the energy swirled around him, Thomas could feel his body burning into ash. He lost all hope and allowed for the fire to take him; consume every bit of his body. He started to lose conscience - then realized, he wasn't dying. He was changing.
His skin glowed with energy, turning a luminescent golden shade. It was obvious, he was no longer a message boy. He was a GOD.
"Yes!" He cried. "I...I can have all I've wanted to achieve."
