Chapter Twenty Four: Joy
When I woke up the next morning, my mouth was incredibly sore. It brought back painful memories of Transylvania, of when Dracula would force experiments on me so my fangs would grow. Which naturally could only mean one thing-
My fangs were back.
Dragging myself over to the bathroom, my private bathroom (this was a penthouse after all), I lifted up my upper lip to check. Yep. Two pearly white fangs had appeared, and that definitely wasn't good news. And, I didn't remember how to make them go away.
Guess I'm not going to school today...or ever again.
Walking downstairs, I found an empty kitchen, and an empty living room too. Which meant Harry was probably still asleep, and Osborn was...well who knows where.
"Anyone awake?" I tried calling out. Nothing, cool. So I'll just go back to bed and hide there forever, which seemed to be a good move. Harry would be too busy rushing to pay me any attention and well, Osborn isn't here. Win win situation, really.
"Joy!! Good, you're awake! I have something for you." Oh boy. I turned and faked a smile, pretending I was happy to see Mr. Osborn.
"Hey...Dad! I was just looking for you, wanted to let you know I'm not feeling well and—." Osborn waved my comment aside.
"No matter, you're not going to school anyway. Not with those fangs you've grown." I gasped, covering up my mouth quickly. Was it that obvious? Time to become a mute for life.
"Oh don't look like that, it's not that awful. Lucky for you, you have a scientist for an adoptive father, Joy. Oscorp has developed just the thing to help you." Mr. Osborn said casually, wrapping his arm around me and leading me towards the elevator. To where his lab was.
I didn't have Spider-Senses like Peter did, but I did not have a good feeling about this.
The elevator moved slowly, and the whole time I found myself wondering why I didn't realize how creepy Osborn could be sometimes. There was that time he stormed into Avengers Tower screaming threats and what not, but that wasn't so much creepy. Just really scary. Now, going down to the floors below ground, in a dimly lit elevator for some reason, standing next to a man who was smiling, almost too proudly? Yep, not for that. No sir.
"Where are we going?" I finally asked, although I knew the answer.
"To my lab, my dear. I have been working hard with an associate of mine to create something to help you...control your vampire natures." I frowned.
"I already know how to control them. I've had these abilities my whole life."
"Yes, but you have amnesia, don't you? Unless you've magically gotten all of your memories back, you're going to need something to help you when your memory fails. Oscorp, and more specifically I have created a solution for that." As much as I wanted to tell him he was wrong, that I didn't need it, I also had fangs that disagreed with me. I couldn't get rid of those...
"Okay." He didn't hear me. The elevator door dinged open, and I was faced with an incredibly creepy lab. Dark, gloomy, green (oddly enough). Felt like a Disney villain lair.
"Otto. Our guest has arrived." I had to resist the urge to jump into Super Hero mode. Otto Octavius; I read about him in S.H.I.E.L.D files. Spider-Man called him Doctor Octopus, or Doc Oc for short.
"It's about time. I was beginning to wonder if-."
"Mind your tongue, Otto. Joy isn't here for your prattling." Did Joy get a choice in being here? Silly question.
