It was a full moon and the stars twinkled in the indigo sky.
The town of Singing Creek was fast asleep, including the Willis family. In the big blue house, only one bedroom window was open, that of Lanore Willis.
Lanore was the couples only daughter and as such, they saw her as a precious treasure.
She was short, with long black hair and narrow brown eyes. She had been adopted from China as an infant, after Richard and Maria Willis learned that they could not have children. She wasn't beautiful but rather interesting. Someone that was nice to look at, she had a face that belonged in a painting.
As Lanore slept soundly, a figure appeared in her bedroom, a light tinkling sound following his footsteps.
He moved towards the bed and stood over Lanore, looking at her with curious blue eyes.
"So this is her..." he whispered.
He stroked her face gently before leaning down and pressing his golden lips to her pink ones.
A bright gold flash filled the room and he pulled away.
Lanore opened her eyes and stared at him in fear, her mouth open in a silent scream.
"Don't worry," he said. "You'll understand soon."
As he vanished in bright blue smoke, Lanore regained her voice.
Her echoing scream was the last thing her heard of her for many years...
