"Didi."
No movement.
"Didi."
Still no movement.
A soft kick. And a whimper.
Dylan opened his eyes and stretched, his side still stinging from the kick he just received. He looked up and saw Yue smiling apologetically to him.
"Sorry for kicking you. Are you hurt? It's just that I have to leave in a few and will be gone the whole day and I want to say bye. And I left you enough food and water to last you for the day. Be good while I'm gone okay? I really tried to get out of this one but my parents made me go. I would rather spend the day here with you than go to that party. It will be all adults and I don't even know my parents insisted for me to come."
Yue stopped talking when she heard her mom calling her. "Time to go. Bye Didi! Sorry again!"
Dylan felt sad as he's looking forward to spending the day with Yue. She was also out yesterday with her friends and didn't come back until dinner time.
He sniffed and smelled something good. Waffles. He was about to sink his fangs on his breakfast when he saw someone in his peripheral vision.
"Can't a dog eat in peace?"
"Good morning to you too, Didi."
"What do you want now Darren?"
"Just checking to see if you want to be a human again."
It has been two weeks since Darren turned him to a dog.
Dylan rolled his eyes. "I told you no. I'm happy being a dog. I get to be with Yue. Though I can't see her angelic beautiful face since half of her face is always covered with a mask but I enjoy spending time with her. And hearing her laugh makes my heart sing. So, no. I'm staying as a dog and that's my final decision."
"But you can't be a dog forever!" Darren said, now getting upset.
"You're the one who made me a dog, remember? You should be happy. Not upset." Dylan said while he's munching on his breakfast.
"This is delicious. Yue's mom really makes good waffles. Want some?"
Dylan heard Darren sigh.
"Didi. Please. I will get into trouble if you won't transform back into your human form anytime soon."
"Wait, did I hear it right? You? The ever fine Darren Chen will be in trouble? I knew it. What you did to me was illegal, right? You really don't have the authority to punish me and turn me into a dog, don't you? Dylan said, his eyes twinkling in mischief. He rather enjoys seeing the always composed Darren lose his poise.
"Of course I have the authority to punish you. I just didn't think that you won't want to become human again."
"If you're desperate to turn me back into my human form again, why don't you just snap your fingers or wave your hands to cast your magic? Why do you need my permission? You didn't ask for it before."
Darren closed his eyes and summoned all his strength to not lose his cool. "It doesn't work that way, Dylan. You have to want it. It's also the reason why conditions have to be met if a punished person wants to undo the curse. When a person commits grave mistakes which warrant some form of punishment, the only way to reverse it is if that person, in this case, you, is willing to atone for it. You have to be willing to repair what you have broken. In order to find balance."
"But I don't want to put Yue's life in danger. And I am telling you, I'm quite content in being Yue's dog. She decided to keep me and not find my 'owner' anymore. So stop convincing me and you go do something fun." Dylan said and went on gobbling more waffles.
